  • Ive got a busy day today, lots of housework to catch up on, this place is a tip!! Its so cluttered!! I've been up since 4am, damn kitten!! Im also working tonight 7.30pm-midnight, yawn, so it will be a long day :-(

Mwah ha ha haaaa! Mine is like a furry alarm clock. Don't let it get used to being in your room... Mine has a habit of sitting above my head, on my pillow, and purring from around 0500 sometimes earlier.. or I wake up and its up against my back or in the crook of my bent arm should I have it above my head... very weird but has left me laughing sometimes... not very often though...:D

  • Looks like the bike repairs will costs between £98 and £128 depending on labor - gutted does not even measure how I feel... might just be easier to wait until the new year although I need it for getting to work before then!:mad::mad:

  • Well Good Morning to you all...:)

The wind is rustling through the realms of my thread as you trudge to work or wake in a freezing house, boil the kettle and contemplate your day... the silence on this thread is palpable. What are you all thinking - has time swept your day so far out of your reach you have no time to talk... Its OK, I'll talk for you. If you read I appreciate it, if you reply it warms my being...

    So I shall begin....

I got off the train two stops early yesterday as mentioned on the DDD thread ( in case this bores you all) to go to a slightly bigger Tesco's than the grubby getting-more-expensive-by-the-day one near my house:mad:, stacked my basket with goodies keeping it under my allotted £18 and half dragged, half walked my carcass back to said train station - I was not impressed with the prices in my Lidl's as per some conversations on here and decided not to buy anything...even the pepsi max cans..

My body is starting to exhibit a degree of painful aches due from walkies over the weekend and last nights Tesco run. I thought I had got away scot-free but alas my gloating is short lived and I relent in the hands of the aging process and decay....what a glorious word!

So I shall be rearranging as many funds as possible to scrape this £128 for my bike repairs together - it was my own fault so I can't complain too much. I just refuse to put it on my CC which is nice and clear...

Heading back to Ireland next Tuesday ( 1 week to go!!!) and am assuming the food accrued last night and what I have already in the cupboards will see me through until then including an overtime shift on Sunday - big mistake as I finish at 0200 and start again for 1100 on the Monday...whoopsie! Needs must though... I need to do 4 of these a month so the two nights after I return I have applied for overtime..FINGERS CROSSED!!

So my list for the day...
    • Book Restaurant for girlies back home before it fills up...:T
    • Write all Christmas cards tonight ..:T
    • Watch a film at Cineworld (to justify my monthly payment of £15)
    • Scrape pennies from around my room to add to "bike repair" pot...:(

Right that will do for now.... I have more scheming to get done and research for Januarys challenge....:T:T:T

    Onwards and Upwards!!!

Its amazing - with a few clicks of my mouse I find a story about a Grandad who killed himself over a £150,000 debt and a mother who buys her two toddlers £2000 worth of gifts each Christmas by saving her benefits - by the way she claims £1200 a month!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!!! I am amazed at the audacity and the sheer cheek of a grubby benefit scrounger who thinks there is nothing wrong with what she is doing and refuses (yes actually refuses) to get a job as she says there is not point.. is this her fault or that of a very easy government system...

I have NO problems with someone earning benefits, my brother did for two years whilst job seeking - however he also managed to get a loan in order to do his Masters in Surveying, become one of Northern Ireland only Asbestos Management Specialists and stay sane in a country who's construction industry has taken what can only be described as a very deep nose dive which they have yet to recover from....

My brother is 31 years old.. he travels on average 400 miles a week getting to and from work to my Granny's house then at weekends to my parents for recovery time...most of his wage goes on petrol and he cannot really afford to live on his own anywhere at the moment...

At one point he was told by an prospective employer that they had 700 applicants for two positions as grounds-keepers of a stately home...basically picking up litter. You think England is bad - try NI??

So the kind of money-grabbers I hate are the ones that "refuse" to change their circumstances and have no shame in taking money when they could easily get a part-time job and save like the rest of us... a girlfriend back home who has 2 babies and 1 on the way also realized that paying for a babysitter for two and working full-time was impossible.... why is the government unable to support someone who does want to work like they support the ones who don't...?

Most babysitters back home are independent, especially in the small villages.. so to cope with living they put up their fees as well....

This is not something I understand to well... its a double edged sword. How do you make sure those claiming benefits are entitled to them and how do you ensure those that can work are supported in a way that doesn't rob them before they have left the house...childcare / transport etc..

I have no issues with disability allowances, child support, job seekers allowance etc.. but in the right, honest, necessary context!!

Then there is the other side of the coin - those in so much debt, too ashamed to admit they need help and see only one way out. We need to support this thingy that Martin is pushing about ensuring education is taught in schools at a basic level... gonna look into this!

No life is worth just a measly £150,000. None....
There needs to be a nationwide call to arms....
If you have debt, there is a way out.
Ask for help and it shall be given!

    Rant complete..

Hi Kat, we shut the kitten in the spare room at night so our other cat can go in and out as she pleases, we can hear him miaowing through the wall, the neighbours MUST be able to hear him through their wall too as they sleep in the adjoining bedroom!! I do feel a bit bad for them! He then rips up the carpet by the doorway so you then can't open the door as the carpet is all bunched up!! nightmare! He also has the loudest purr in the world!!!

Glad you had a nice time on your walking holiday, would you do it again? Did you know the people you went with?

Listerbelle Good luck with your exams etc, are you studying in the UK? Small world as I work at a hospital recruiting doctors! Maybe we will meet one day!!

  • Hi Kat

I also read that article today about the lady claiming the benefits. Makes me so angry to read things like that - lots of people will read that and think thats the life they want and won't bother to get a job. If the government though is paying out for lazy people like this though then its just going to continue. Grrrrrrr!!!! Hate knowing that my tax is going towards people like this.

Very sad about the man who took his own life though - debt can do horrible things to people and he must have been in such a dark place thinking no way out. Sad.

    It's oh... So.. Quiet.

I'm well excited, found this link that is suspiciously well hidden http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/saving-money They have a little podcast thingy, it's actually quite calming.

Also have had one hell of a good survey day, £9.50 earnt so far and there's no real sign of it ending.

Also, anyone interested in reading slightly more academic (but well written) articles on the economy, the poor and policy change affects should have a look at jrf.org.uk

Still feeling rubbish though. : (

    Hello all,

I'm still reading, not a great poster but a good lurker. :D

Kat well done on the walk :T.... i must do a little exercise tomorrow! And also taken from your other thread, i bought the big issue from someone which is something i always thought about but never actually did so thanks for the push (not quite tea/coffee) idea. And considering i was paying to get my car cleaned and bought a few home furnishings, i felt £3 was nothing in the grand scheme of things. (i'd just like to add i don't live a lavish lifestyle my car hadn't been cleaned for a year and started growing green stuff on the side windows) so thought it was about time it had a good old clean.

I also just realised that i get paid 13 times a year so my target may be more reachable than i first thought.

Oh and you'll be glad to hear i've not gone anywhere near any bingo sites, its weird it's like i used to just spend money on it to fill a boredom hole.

And OMG those links about benefits etc make me so angry, i don't get it how can someone who just doesn't work be better off than someone who is willing to get off their butts every day... i can't even talk about it, it makes me so mad!!!
