the shirt has melted on the sleeve, i was going to throw it out, but it goes well under my jacket, so will keep it and just keep my jacket on when i am out!

Maybe you could turn it into a short sleeve shirt.

logged into building society statements today- so exciting to have a new page. Interest is now 3.92 a day (was 7.90 last jan with 2 mortgages and a fixed rate double what we are now on). And we have another 2 months off the end term, due to finish now in jan 2024...hope it is a lot sooner than that! I turned 44 last week, so would like this paid by the time I hit 50 please, please.

well it is 11am, have 6 folk coming for lunch, and another 3 guests arriving tomorrow, and a party to go to tonight...think I should get out of bed and get some clothes on?

socialising almost finished, we are going out for a meal tomorrow night with another couple. had couple of very old pals for lunch today - one was our bridesmaid, and so knew us when we were penniless teenage parents. A few years ago we started making some money and were spending lots on luxuries and expensive hotels. We are not like that now. Made cottage pie from mince in freezer, leeks from garden, and leftover veg. homebread bread and rice pudding from storecupboard, so didn't spend a penny today. We had a lovely day and had to laugh when our freind's partner mentioned making his own mortgage overpayments. I wonder how many people do this quietly?

oh, and mortgage down to 56,658.88 today. really making inroads into it now...

  • had a hiccup last night, usual pub was closed so our freind booked into the most expensive one in town. Food was lovely, but spent about £75 for each couple. Thats my usual shopping budget for the week. Still, it was a great night, and we dont see this couple very often, although they were saying we should make it a regular treat - gonna have to introduce them to cheaper places, obviously:rotfl:

Anyway, OH not been working much over holidays, so usual cash flow problems and the money that is coming in needs to pay tax bill this month, and I am already starting to think there is not much money in account. Got £33 yesterday as credit on gas bill, so will put that to one side. More overtime tomorrow, but that is the last bit i have booked at the moment.

Just looked in cupboards and freezer and reckon with just £20 of fresh food, we might manage 2 weeks of meals by using up what we have. So will take that shopping tonight and then go swimming- have a monthly membership to council gym, and if we dont use it, gonna cancel it!!

On the plus side, lots of chocolate still left to eat, life is not too hard:)

  • had another look at the budget and managed to OP £200 tonight, and had made a payment earlier this week, so total now down to £55,466.18. Might manage another 200 at the end of the month ( forgot both kids are due to pay rent money next week, so that will help).

Found a new website selling wonderful 1950 style dresses quite cheap and really resisting buying a couple. I have signed up to their facebook page and they seem to run a few promotions on there with 10% off at times, so might justify it if I get a deal.:D

  • another 86.16 into the pot yesterday from OH 2nd job, but he paid last years tax bill yesterday with our credit card. I have £500 to put towards it, so still have over £1500 to find before our interest free period end later this year. He is still thinking of winding up his business, as it is bringing in very little money now. he has a loan paid off in March, so that will release some cash flow, but it will also make it easier to stop trading as no commintments.

Its difficult, he is lucky in that he could easily get work working for an employer, but did that before and he was so miserable. He is much happier working for himself, and we are managing on what he brings in now. Though, obviously, if he did get another job, we could double the overpayments and get our goal a bit quicker.

ah well, wait and see. spent 6.30 yesterday on a DVD - new years eve which is rubbish, but has jon bon jovi in it, so total bargain! Which reminds me, i must buy some tickets for me and some freinds to see them on tour this year, and OH wants to try and get tickets for car fest too. My social life gets in the way of our saving again!:o

  • well my nsd fell by the wayside today, forgot I had promised my mum I would bake for her church coffee morning tomorrow. She phoned at 11 as I was heading off to work asking what time I would be able to drop cakes off tonight...panic run round asda tonight getting ingredients at 7 pm after work, then baked all evening, last batch just out the oven.

I dont mind really, quite enjoy cooking, but it is expensive getting ingredients when asda do quite nice cakes for a fraction of the price. I was tempted to buy some and bash them around for a bit to give them a rustic look...but that wouldn't be ethical and ma would not be able to show her face at the kirk again if the other ladies rumbled my plan.:A

Off to bed, and have to get up early to drive the cakes to the church tomorrow. Bang goes my lie in with James Martin!

  • Forgot the kids were paid yesterday, so got 2 lots of rent from them. managed to pay another £200 OP tonight. There is a wee bit more in the spare pot, but going to keep that until payday as the current account is very low thanks to the quarterly bill from BT. not sure why it is not paid monthly?

Had some vouchers for a nice shop in town that i was given when i left my last job, decided i had better spend them, so bought a couple of nice necklaces, one is very unusual. It was a great treat, shopping without money! I still have my christmas bonus voucher from john lewis to spend, so might do that tomorrow.

Feeling a bit low at this time of year..I think the moneysaving frugal bit is starting to become obsessive...We keep planning a meal out and then the other person talks us into eating in at home again 'cos it's cheaper. I think we need more of a balance.

  • nsd today, and had soup from the freezer with sandwiches for tea. Also a very slow drive home in the freezing fog, so that must have saved a few drops of fuel...god, how desperate am i getting?

We sat down with our son yesterday and helped him work out a budget with the aim of him getting his own mortgage in a year or so. It is amazing how much money he has been wasting. He used to rent a flat, but then came home 18 months ago to "save" some cash - but spending almost every penny instead. I think the message got through to him...if he is not going to save then he might as well go back to renting again. He says he is going to open a save to buy account with the building society and save a deposit. We might extend our mortgage to give him a help, but only if he is serious about saving. I will keep up our OP at the moment, but might stop and start saving spare cash for that later.

Going off on holiday on Saturday for our dose of vit D, leaving both kids here at home...hope there is no wild parties :o:
