I drip feed into a S&S ISA...and keep tracking it on an app on my phone. I use HL. Basically I am up, even if there is turmoil as I generally buy in order to hold. I am also much more involved in trying to get my pension in a good place...again having it on my phone makes me much more likely to drip feed in the funds and I certainly enjoy it when the tax refund comes through a few months later so I can allocate that too!

There are some cheaper options if you CBA moving, not sure if HL charge exit fees?

I think you're probably being too conservative. I remember when public sector colleagues were retiring in receipt of pretty decent pensions and I was flabbergasted that their IFAs were suggesting very high risk portfolios for their AVCs and ISAs etc. in retrospect, it made perfect sense. You have a guaranteed 'floor', so you can afford to take more risks than someone without it.

I think you are probably right to be honest. It's not as if I'm going to suddenly put all our savings into equities - initially I'm going to only be putting small sums into the S&S ISA, so I could probably withstand a slightly higher percentage of equities within the ISA

Hi Ed, there probably are..but I am pretty happy with the service, software etc so plan on sticking with them for a while.

Main thing for me is to be disciplined enough to be actually investing...and not getting distracted by other things eg. holidays, food or ephemeral items!

If you have a game shop near you (game. Cex. Even some second hand mobile dealers) you will get a fab deal. My mum got my brother a brand new xbox for 80 quid with 3 games because the boy had two for xmas. Also try local facebook selling pages. Save yourself a fortune.

Unfortunately, I've already bought it hence the squeeze but I will bear that in mind for the future as it didn't occur to me to try those options.

Brizzled I am already a bit obsessive with checking my accounts on my phone so I wonder what an ISA app would do to me! Now that I have discovered I can check my pension online through the employee portal in work I have a new hobby.
Seriously though, I think for most small investors, drip feeding into a tracker is probably the most savvy way to build the foundation of your portfolio. You can add other bits on top if you have the time and inclination.

No unplanned spending yesterday and hopefully today will be a NSD. I am going to spend the weekend doing some number crunching and general financial admin. I have such an exciting life.

    Just plodding along today.:)
