I Want To Be Mortgage Free!

Logged on to Hitachi Personal Finance last night as we were getting near to paying off the 0% loan we had which paid for the new bathroom. We had only one more payment to make for £184.96 so we decided to pay it there and then and then cancel the direct debit so it's all done and dusted! I'm glad it's all paid off so that the £184.96 we are going to be saving from next month can go towards the mortgage!:D
I've claimed another £5 from the surveys today which is nice and my onepoll is up to £27.60 so hopefully it won't be long until I can get to the £40 cashout!
Meeting my friend in town tomorrow for breakfast so I'm off to count the coins in the piggy bank and hopefully I'll have enough to pay into the bank!
Have a lovely weekend!

Great news on being so close to paying the loan off, well done you :j xMFW

Denplan (This is for both me and OH Dentist): £36.13
Is it really worth it? It's a lot of money. I normally see the dentist twice a year and have some fillings done (£56 band 2 NHS treatment) so the total annual cost for me is under £120 and it wouldn't be worth paying half of your £36 / month.
Life Insurance £13.67
Do you need it?
Gas & Electric: £70
That's more than I'm paying and I have 4 lodgers (so 5 people in total). Are you on pay-as-you-go or bills, and have you considered changing your energy supplier?
Car Insurance: £56.51
Car Service plan: £15.12
DVLA: £16
Petrol: £150
A lot of money for the luxury of having a car! Do you use your car often? Is public transport or cycling not an option where you live and with your lifestyle?
Mobile Phone: £14
Isn't there a way of cutting this down by switching? I'm on pay-as-you-go with Three and a £5 top-up lasts me 6-8 weeks.
Pet Insurance for 2 dogs: £40.29
Again, is this worth more than it costs you?
Broadband and Phone: £50
Do you need your landline? You could get decent broadband for half that.
New Bathroom: £184.96 (This is only until May 17 and has 0% interest)
Good to see this is ending!
Shopping: £250
If this is for both you and your partner then that's good. If it's just you there must be a lot of room for savings here. Yellow sticker reductions - which has been suggested before - can go a long way.
TV License (Quarterly) £37.62

Thanks ATB it's a relief to have it all paid off and know that we will have that extra money in the bank! xMortgage Balance as of Jan 24 £36,500 Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000. 2024 Overpayment Challenge: Jan £558.40, Feb £588.11, Mar £497.320 -

Thanks for you input expl0rer, I'm pleased to say some things have been reduced since I did this soa!Mortgage Balance as of Jan 24 £36,500 Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000. 2024 Overpayment Challenge: Jan £558.40, Feb £588.11, Mar £497.320 -
After counting the coins in the piggy bank I am pleased to announce I put £31 in the bank! Not bad to say it's spare change that OH leaves lying around the house or pennies I find on the street while walking the dogs.
I had breakfast with my friend which only cost a fiver for a veggie full English and cup of tea which will keep me full until tea time. I did buy a phone case for £5 while I was in town as I only got my new phone last year and I intend to keep it as long as my last one which was 6 years, unfortunately I am quite clumsy and do drop it a lot so I thought this might help! Lol!
I logged on to the mortgage account when I got home (as I do everyday!) and found that they had taken the payment that is due to go out on the 1st May off the total already so the new amount is £64,664.00. I'll wait for the interest to be added on before making an overpayment so I can get it down to a nice round figure (I don't like to see pennies on the total! Lol!).
Enjoy the long weekend!

Well done on finishing the bathroom payment That will make a great dint in the mortgage in future!
I don't know if it's new, or if I'm just forgetful, but I love the line in your signature showing the monthly OP amounts xMortgage: Mar 2018 -£300,000 / Jul 2021 -£255,000

I'm part of that 2017 mfw challenge so I added the overpayments each month line so that I could make sure what I put on that thread matched what's on mine! Are you part of that thread? It's a good motivator to reach a certain target by the end of the year! xMortgage Balance as of Jan 24 £36,500 Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000. 2024 Overpayment Challenge: Jan £558.40, Feb £588.11, Mar £497.320 -
No, I'm not, I wasn't aware of it but it sounds like a great way to stay motivated. I'll take a look and see if I can find it Thank youMortgage: Mar 2018 -£300,000 / Jul 2021 -£255,000

I've had the shopping delivered today which was £92.22 for the next two weeks. I'm trying to keep it under £100 for two weeks worth but that can be easier said than done so I'm quite pleased I'm under budget this time. I have had to call Tesco about my previous order though as I was told I would get a refund for two veggie pizzas that I'd ordered which they substituted for meat pizzas so I sent them back. I received an email saying I would receive a refund within 2-5 working days. Well it's been two weeks and still no refund! The lady apologised and said she would sort it out immediately and I then received another email to say I should receive my refund within 2-5 working days so we shall see!
I have reached 5000 points on newvista so I should receive a cheque for £50 in the next few weeks, this will be nice because our holiday is coming up at the beginning of June! I'm hoping the weather will have improved by then as well! Is it just me or does it seem unusually cold for this time of year?!
I've been watching that 'How to live mortgage free with Sarah Beeny' and I'll be honest, when I'm mortgage free I'm tempted to sell the house and go live on a boat or in a motorhome and just travel round the country! When I told DH this he looked at me as if I was bonkers and asked if I was off my medication! Lol! How rude of him!
Have a lovely afternoon!
