Just received an email from the Tribunal service.
Apparently they don't deal with interest appeals in any form so it's back to the helpline.

How many times have you objected to the interest charge (I say objected as there is no formal appeals process for interest chrages).

If you have only objected once you can ask for the decision to be reviewed (this should have been advised to you in their decision letter) and provide to them any additional evidence you may have. If however you have exhausted the process then there is little else you can do that wouldn't result in you having to pay out more than the £68 in fee's etc to a tax specialist willing to fight this out with HMRC possibly in court (unless of course you find a tax specialist willing to do the work for free).

As you have already been advised above Interest is a statutory charge on outstanding tax balances and even if HMRC hadn't taken it into account when they re-calculated the payment schedule it is still payable and they can ask for it to be paid.

I've only objected once and wasn't aware that this could be reviewed (there's nothing in the letter about a review).
The person I spoke to on the helpline for Self-Assessment said my next step was the tribunal.
I'll ask for a review and send them even more paperwork (I only sent them the two letters stating the outstanding balance last time).

I'm also waiting for someone from the technical team to contact me.
