Brittany Ferries booking tip

Brittany Ferries are offering day trips* to France for £24 for a foot passenger (£30 extra for a car)

* a day is defined as 29 hours ashore. See below........

So, what if you want to stay longer than a day ??

Well, just buy 2 return tickets and only use 1 single journey for each ticket.

So, if you were departing on a Monday and returning on a Thursday you'd book the return journey for the 1st ticket for Tuesday (which you'd not use) and the outward journey for the 2nd ticket for Wednesday (which you'd again throw away).

Total cost = £48 (for a foot passenger), which I'd argue is cheaper than buying 1 return ticket costing about £60 !!

There are some restrictions on this offer, particularly Summer weekends so choose your getaways carefully.

but be aware that this will be in breach of the T&Cs and you could well return to a couple of bills for the difference to two one-way journeys...eg http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187094-i1050-k6312203-Warning_about_Brittany_Ferries_ticket_scam-Brittany.html

The return journey could well be cancelled if you don't make the outward crossing.
I don't know what Brittany Ferries policy is though so give it a go and report back.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

And for those attracted by the title of this post, the longer term tip is...

to catch their early booking discount of 25% off hols when combining ferry and accommodation; they have only just opened this for 2016 holiday cottages and 'casas' and hotel schedules (2016 'hotel and parador' hols will be open to book from mid-November) but the savings are worthwhile; as little as £700 odd for a fortnight in Northern Spain including your car and a cottage for two...

You've got to be on their mailing list to discover this; for years we were ignorant and booked later at full-rate! But last winter we booked a fortnight's B&B in classy hotels in Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria in May '15 for well under a grand; including the ferry with our car, and an upgrade to big outside cabins on both overnight crossings so we didn't have to cope with steps up to bunks (I'm too old for climbing!). Great value as it would usually cost about £600-700 for the crossing alone so the hotels only effectively cost £30-odd a night for a double . Fuel and tolls through France would be about £500 return, so it seems a no-brainer if you want to join the other petrolheads on the wonderful northern Spanish roads
