For Heavy Duty Oven Cleaning
Pour half a mug of ammonia mixed with half a mug of water into a bowl and place in warm oven. Leave for several hours – or overnight. Wipe clean with sponge, damp cloth or plastic net scrubber
saves all that cash on Mr Muscle
be careful of the fumes though
wear a mask and ventilate the room when your mixing the ammonia
horrible stuff but very effective
and cheap
;D

Where can I get ammonia from? Never seem to see it anywhere and I'm too chicken to ask in the 'wrong' sort of shop :-/0

................in Boots from the pharmacy counter.
Cathy, I could :-* you - I've had a bottle under the sink for about 4 years wondering what to use it for as my mum used to use it on her nets but she doesn't have them any more.0 -
you can get ammonia from any chandlers shop or boots and a lot of supermarkets sell it
I think B & Q sell it as well.0 -
:)Thanks Cathy - I'll be shopping tomorrow and will have a sparkling oven by Sunday!0

after a particular nasty lengthy oven clean i decided to clean it every time I use it
so when its cooled down obviously but still warm i just run a vinegar soaked cloth round the whole oven one wipe usually does it
I havent had to clean the oven now for 4 years and its shiny clean
;D ;D ;D0 -
Is there any way to do it without ammonia? I am worried about the fumes!
Thanks
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
try a bowl of water boiling when you put it in a hot oven with lemon juice in it leave to steam then as soon as oven is cool enough go for it
but wont be as good as the ammonia
no fumes once its closed in the oven
though0 -
My oven is so clean now. Looks like new again! Thing is I don't want to use it now :-/
Sinuses also cleaned out ;D0 -
Thank you Cathy, I shall try that.
What a pity I have no lemons now as I have a nice hot oven (just cooked a polenta cake).
