It's a good time to sell, given how strong the housing market is.

If the house next door is detached, I wouldn't worry about it, even if you can see it from the window. There's no threat of damage to the structure of your building, and knowing the wreck of a house is going to be done up will give buyers the comfort of knowing it's potentially going to make their own house even more desirable.

Maybe the OP can let us know when it sells, and for how much?

Who keeps a house empty for 17 years, and why? I`m sure Mr. Corbyn will have a policy or two to sort out this type of thing!
Yes I'm sure he would! Thankfully he's unlikely to get the chance.

That is what they said about Trump, and Brexit, and Corbyn had "no chance of coming anywhere close" last time either :rotfl: I wouldn`t underestimate how peed off large numbers of people are about the broken housing system among other things ;)

Do they have to pay full council tax on all the empty houses?

Yes but's that's of no concern to them, they're a typical boomer... more money than they know what to do with, despite only having a semi-skilled, public sector job and retiring at 50.

As I thought, you would think it would be easier just to let someone in rent free to keep the place heated and pay the council tax though, good for security as well, not to mention their social conscience?

Margi G - Crashy constantly posts negative stuff on this forum. He is bitter because he made some bad choices with housing. You should heavily discount anything he posts.

I'd just put the house on the market now. The housing market is slow in terms of buyers and sellers at the moment. FTB are likely to want something they can just move in to rather than having to spend £20K to get it up to standard. It's lack of deposit rather that's the problem rather than mortgage affordability.

Maybe he could lend a couple to Hammond - the chancellor that does sweet FA.

As for the OP - I think you've got until the end of 2018. I wouldn't want to be making any big financial moves at all during 2019 personally. I think hunkering down is the best bet.

Yep, he's lived in a bedit for the past 20 years and he hates anyone that has managed to do better than him, so discount any of the bias none-sense he posts.

Nothing to do with house prices then? :)
