Thanks, the one showing on Virgin is the Nissan Rogue, but obviously it will depend on what they have available to what I can choose from. That should be large enough for 3 adults and 2 children and luggage.0 -
I am looking to hire a car for our trip to Florida, we land at Miami and are driving up to Orlando/Disney, we are looking to book our car through Virgin Atlantic (Alamo) but on Virgins booking page it does not allow/add to add a child car seat or add the additional driver info that comes with the package (haven't completed booking yet)
I was wondering as lots of comments on posts reference Online check in through Virgin, when you do your online check in do you get the option to add additional stuff then and just pay locally i.e child car seats or do you have to wait and go to the counter?0 -

Not 100% sure but looking at the Alamo site it seems you can add driver and child seat requirements during on-line check in. LINK0 -
We have always booked our car through the link on Orlando villas. Come We have been 3 times now. We have always flown to Miami and picked up our car with no issues. The last time we went something went wrong with the car so we took it to the Orlando airport and they changed it with no problems at all. We have always found them cheaper than other sites too.0

They are off site at. Miami International but price and feedback looked OK. On arrival we (and other customers ) were told that they had run out of cars ! They advised that it wasn't even worth coming back the next day and that we should contact Zest. This resulted in us having to get an expensive taxi to our local friends north of Miami then losing the weekend trying to sort out the mess and eventually getting a mega expensive car hire from National . We are now trying to get some kind of compensation which Zest are investigating. Be warned.
This happened to us in America once and we got it resolved. Turned up at Fort Worth to be told there wouldn't be a car for two days and there no other companies had any either.
The key (not useful in hindsight) is to stop being British about it and start complaining. Sure, the clerk at the desk will tell you nicely there is nothing you can do but rest assured his manager would have got you a car if you'd stood firm. He probably had reserve of cars for "preferred" customers which you would have got.
The guy we spoke to in Forth Worth went through this sequence:-
- We've got no cars. We'll refund your rental and you can contact your agent.
- We can get you a car tomorrow. Get a taxi and come back. We'll refund you the taxi fare when you come back.
- We'll get a limo to your hotel and bring you a car in the morning.
- A cancelled car will be available in an hour. You can wait for it but it's a lower class and we won't be able to offer you a refund.
- We've found a lower class car you can have now and we've also found the Full Size SUV you've booked which we'll drop at your hotel before you're awake tomorrow.
Getting to the last stage took 15 minutes of stern words, refusals and knowing looks. The culture in the US is to treat the loudest and most stubborn the best and it normally works. The meek Brit off his long flight will be long in the tail dust of the guy who stands his ground.
Oh, and the hire company in this case also gave us £140 back for the inconvenient when I complained to the agent.0 -
I have rented a fair few cars from Florida over the last few years going with the cheapest rentals every time. I have in-laws out here.
In 2012 I had an issue with Alamo claiming I had caused damage to a car that I tried to inform them of the damage that I found before I left but they ignored me telling them and post rental tried to charge me until I sent them photos of both the damage AND one of their employees who I had informed. Suffice to say I didn't pay anything and they hadn't recorded the prior damage.
November 2017 I had a car rental with Alamo again via AutoEurope. Got a fairly small car and when I picked it up this guy who worked for Alamo at Orlando put an unbelievable amount of pressure on me to upgrade. It was constant for about 5 mins. Weaker people would have buckled and it was so unprofessional. I tried to find an email address for them to write to at Orlando but they didn't have a direct one I could find. Put me off Alamo a lot and not the first bad experience with them.
Presently I am in FL and have a hire car from Avis via Holidayautos in Miami. No issues as yet but the key has no fob for central locking or opening the boot and it feels like I am back in the 90's... most bizarre.
I have also booked a hire car for New Jersey in July from Europcar via AutoEurope again but I have taken out bettersafe yearly cover as I need a winter car in Prague in December and I thinking I may have weather issues with that so covering that aspect.
In Prague airport note I can find negative reviews on both Green Motion and Firefly, the two cheapest with negative reviews everywhere. Does anyone have experience of them in Prague?0 -
