As Msaonic says....HMRC send you a letter with a 'paying in slip' on the bottom, you take the letter and your cash to the bank.
Credit cards do the same.0 -
If the OP had used a card, there would be a record of this?
Two posters have suggested that there should be a photographic record of the transaction.
The OP has a receipted bill.
The OP has been harassed for a payment already made.
It would appear that the OP has been treated with a complete lack of professional courtesy.
In the OP's position, I would be making a written complaint couched in the strongest possible terms and sending it special delivery.0 -
How is special delivery better than recorded signed for?0

You might try sending the same, consise, complaint to these three.
CEO: antonio.osorio @ lloydsbanking.com
MD: davidnicholson @ halifax.co.uk
Head of Retail Banking:
David.Oldfield @ Lloydsbanking.com
without the spaces either side of the at symbol.

I had a complaint about Halifax last year and I emailed it to CEO office David Nicholson. I received a call from the Complaints team the first thing the next morning. The girl was very aware that she had been asked to deal with me via the CEO and the matter was eventually resolved, so I would recommend this route.0

Guaranteed next day delivery and signed for.
In the OP's place I'd be incandescent - the loss of the cash and the harassment are bad enough but combined with the insulting attitude of the manager? Good grief!0 -
I've paid bills with cash before - it's hardly an unusual transaction in a bank branch.
That said, anything with any manual processes is prone to human error.Personally, in ths day and age when payments can be made electronically, by card, by transfer, by any other electronic measn, why on earth would anyone pay cash.0 -
At the end of the day, here is everything that needs to be said:
The OP has a stamped receipt from Halifax saying they paid X amount on Y bill. That is enough. Halifax are up sh*t creek without a paddle. Post a photocopy to their complaints team with an explanatory letter, job's a good'un.urs sinserly,

Nearly but not quite, HMRC wants the account up to date, and they take priority ask Alcapone :eek:0
