I've had a bit of a lazy weekend :o Mr F went off on an adventure with DS1 just the two of them so I have spent the time watching films on N3tflix, eating ice cream and looking at decorating ideas for the new house on the internet :D

Despite the above, I did manage to carry a few small stones:
    • met with a friend for coffee on Friday for a catch up. She is very excited for me and it was lovely to talk about the plans with someone who is genuinely happy for us. She also saw a relatively high value item I'd listed for sale on FB and has said she wants it
    • received the Completion Certificate :j Relieved to have it sorted although I notice that it doesn't cover the electrical work we had done so I think we might get a request for a separate certificate for that at some stage. We'll cross that bridge if we come to it
    • have put the Completion Certificate in an envelope along with some further paperwork for the solicitors so it's all ready for posting tomorrow
    • I've sold another item on Fleabay so I'll package that up for posting once the listing ends
    • a case of wine arrived courtesy of Mr F's Avi0$ points :T
    • the renewal for my car insurance has arrived and it looks to be about £50 cheaper than last year :T I'll have a proper look through later but it's likely I'll stay with them as they are a specialist and have always worked out cheaper than others in the past.

Everything seems to be moving in the right direction :)

Hope you're having a happy Sunday

Today has not gone as planned.

I was due to meet a friend for coffee this morning but she had to pull out :( Bit disappointed as I particularly wanted to talk to her about how she runs her B&B. I haven't mentioned this yet but the new house has a self-contained annex. It's possible that a family member may want to rent it from us but, if not, we could run it as a holiday let. Any money made would be used to OP :T

Popped to the P0st 0ffic£ to send off the solicitor's info and the Fleabay item.

Checked the car insurance and there are a few updates I need to give them but the cost looks fine. I am in the unusual position that my car is increasing in value as time goes on.

Having an extra few hours available prompted me to do something with the rhubarb. I didn't use much last year and ended up giving most of it away. Not this year. I have made:
    • Rhubarb Crumble Muffins. I used double cream and yoghurt instead of buttermilk as that's what I had. Next time I'd reduce the oven temperature a little and cook them for longer if necessary. 200c fan is a little too high and I only caught the tops before they scorched. Mr F has quality tested them already
    • Banana, Rhubarb and Ginger Loaf. This is a completely new recipe to me and Mr F hasn't got round to testing the outcome yet. I'll be popping it in the freezer for the weekend as the DSs are coming to stay
    • Rhubarb Cordial. Added a couple of frozen raspberries to the mix to enhance the colour.

I'll probably make a rhubarb and pear crumble for pudding at the weekend too. Then I'll have really done the plant justice :D

Whilst mid-rhubarbing a shelf in one of the kitchen cabinets collapsed  Broken crockery everywhere  Fortunately it was only the cheap and nasty everyday stuff which I want to replace anyway and I managed to salvage most items.

I spent a lot of money last night. The things we need for the new house include a cooker, a fridge and a vacuum for wood floors. I particularly wanted a Dy$0n F1uffy although I was balking at the cost  Discovered that Dy$0n have a promotion on at the moment and are offering £150 off :T Still expensive but I applied the MSE mantra (If you're not skint: will you use it? is it worth it?) and decided it was a good buy. Particularly as there will be more rooms to vacuum in the new place as well as an annex  Will be posting some FB sales items tomorrow to see if I can recoup some of the cost :)

Having a quick coffee break now before starting on the on-line grocery shop. Then we'll have to get the paperwork together for the IFA as we're meeting him tonight. It'll be a quick supper as we're seeing him at 6.30. Fortunately, there is some Veg & Cheesy Rice Bake left over from last night so that will just need popping in the microwave.

Hope you're week has started well

We rent our top floor via @irbnb. Too simple to set up really. Register through FB, upload a load of pics, write a description and house rules.... which mostly are tick boxes, and go live.

Will definitely be looking into @irbnb Money. May come back to you when the time's right for some insights if that's ok. I also have a niece who works in the holiday let business so will give her a shout as well. We have some renovation works to do on outbuildings when we move in so will get those sorted first. We will need to use the annex for storage until those are completed because we have no attic space either!

  • We met with the IFA last night and completed all the paperwork for the new mortgage  Mr F and I have already made plans for OPing :)

I feel quite relaxed about taking on a bigger amount. We've been sensible about what we can afford and will still be able to live a little. I am quite risk averse where finances are concerned so I even have a disaster recovery plan for worst case scenarios ;)

The mortgage will be the same size as the one we took on when we first moved to our current home. Only then we had a lower income, interest rates were higher and we were borrowing three quarters of the value of the house. Now we'll be borrowing one third of the value of the house and the annex will give us some extra income potential. Plus I can always get a job again if ever needed

Just a matter of waiting for the conveyancing process to take its course now. Our solicitors have a website where you can check progress although it doesn't really go into much detail - instructed, contract sent/received, ready to exchange, exchanged, completed :rotfl:

So just waiting.... waiting... still waiting... are we there yet?

  • Our solicitors are not dragging their feet  The draft contract was sent to our buyers yesterday  Nothing from our vendor's solicitors yet though.

We also had confirmation from the lender that they have received our mortgage application.

Better get on with the decluttering.

Had my hair cut and coloured yesterday. Hairdresser charged me more than usual :( but I can't really complain as he's been charging me half the usual price since I retired and I still got some money off.

Popped in to deliver a card to a friend who is off to travel the world in a camper van :D Got wine and cake for my trouble :D

I've sorted out some paperwork for the move this morning and the rest of the day will be spent getting the house ready for the DS's visit at the weekend.

    Better get started...
