    It couldn't be sliced! :(

GG was pretty much right, culinary extravaganza was sulze (chunks of slow cooked chunks of ham hock layered with olives, pimentos, parsely and chives set in a savoury aspic).

    Tastes great tho :D

Wow, the cooking sounds very extravagant....
Good thinking re DD for Christmas - when they're still so young it's crazy to buy lots of presents... just a few little bits and an ISA contribution certainly is the way to go.
Hope the back is getting better?

Our thinking had been that grandparents and aunts and uncles would want to buy 'stuff', which left us free to practice some minimalism on the sly :)
    How is back today?

Well, I have managed in the region of 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep for the last 2 nights which feels like a huge relief after the week of rubbish sleep that preceded it :T Still stiff and sore, loads of referred pain as well because my movements are all awkward because I'm trying to avoid straining certain parts of my back.

Currently taking ibuprofen and mid strength co-codamol, but only taking the co-codamol in the evenings as a) it makes me foggy at work and b) it's habit-forming!

Glad you've had some sleep … though sounds like you could still do with some help with the back :(

Totally agree re: DD presents. Leaving aside that Christmas commercialism is horribly OTT generally, at that age she will be mesmerised by the lights and some bright sparkly paper, and whether there is one or 100 will make very little difference :)

The sulze description literally made my mouth water … hope it was worth the faff!

I know paracetamol isn't as strong as co-codamol, but as you can take paracetamol and ibruprofen together, have you considered taking them at 2 hour intervals (eg ibruprofen at 8, paracetamol at 10 etc) so that the pain relief never gets a chance to wear off?

That's an idea PD, you can also take co-codamol and ibuprofen at the same time. Touch wood, just ibuprofen is keeping it down to just a dull ache during the day, the evenings are a bit sucky. I will keep my hot water bottle topped up, it's nearly as good as the painkillers!

At the start of last week a colleague who has ongoing back and shoulder woes was saying that she bought a shaped electronic heat pad from either Aldi or Lidl. It was one of their special buys. She has been very impressed with it. Maybe worth a punt?

I hope the sulze is as tasty as it sounds on here. :D

Do hope you get your back issues sorted soon.

Re. Christmas, your plan for daughter seems a really good one. She'll get lots of presents from family, some of which will possibly never be touched. :( I don't really like Christmas, never have since early childhood (probably something to do with my birthday being three days after) but have to admit I've softened towards it since we've had our son. He's in the Father Christmas phase now and after his birthday will be very excited.
