Roaming in Cyprus near North/ South border

Going to Cyprus this summer and probably going near north / south border. What are the roaming implications? Northern Cyprus is not in EU so I presume there is a risk of connecting to a mast if a signal is stronger and incurring a charge?
Does anyone have any information in this matter, Internet searches have failed.

Your own network will tell you - border areas are always problematic so once you get a network whose charges you are happy with, turn off roaming so you stick with it and do not change. Your network will send you 'welcome' texts giving basic pricing when there is a change, so read these carefully.

You are correct, there is a risk this will happen ...... maybe you need to say what phone and network you have.

In your phone's settings, mobile networks, switch to 'manual selection' instead of automatic. When it shows the list of available networks choose a suitable one that you know is in Southern Cyprus with good signal and select that. You will remain connected to that network until you manually choose another or set it back to automatic, or if you switch off and back on it will probably revert so be careful first thing in the mornings. To turn off roaming as suggested above would disable ability to connect to any network.

It won't cost you anything to simply connect to any Northern Cyprus network.

Just make sure your voicemail diverts are off with non-EEA networks (dialling ##002# call usually works)

As long as you don't send an SMS or make or receive a call :)

And as long as your phone doesn't use any background data at several pounds per MB.

If you are in, or near the border of, any of the following places within or near continental Europe, you should be careful:

Albania, Andorra, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus (North), Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Greenland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Vatican City.

Most UK providers will charge extortionate rates if you use your phone via any any of the mobile networks located in those places.
