  • Finally got details of my loans from Wonga.

Total of 55 of them, loads being topped up. Total of £7,100 in initial loans, £4,405 in top ups, repaying a total of £14,523.80.

Complaint sent in just now, fingers crossed for a result on this...

Did you get any acknowledgement back from them between your complaint and your offer?

An "update" email received from Wonga yesterday.

Letter attached "apologising" for not responding to complaint within 8 weeks of receiving it...

    Email itself states:
We apologise for the delay in responding to your complaint. We are currently experiencing a high volume of complaints so our normal timely response has been delayed.

We thank you for your patience and aim to respond within the next 8 weeks. The attached letter confirms the status of your complaint as well as providing you with important information regarding your rights. We would like to reassure you we take your complaint very seriously.

Thoughts on how I should proceed from here?
  • Hi all,

So just to update, i've had some success on this one, receiving refunds from two companies out of 5 so far.

I've just received a third offer which was from Wonga of £892, which I think is more than fair and i've accepted the offer. Does anyone have an idea of how long Wonga take to pay out after you accept? Just i've got a few companies to ring regarding my own DMP in the next day or so and I might be able to ask for a full settlement figure using the Wonga money but don't want to get an offer and then not be able to pay it off.

P.S - it's took about 11 weeks for Wonga to get back to me, but they did update my several times regarding a delay but didn't respond to any of my queries - incase anyone else is still waiting for offers

Did you reject two offers then?

Out of interest, how does the £892 compare to the interest you actually paid them?

It is entirely up to you whether you allow them the extra time or whether you start proceedings with the financial ombudsman (esp as there are more and complaints being handled and the time scale is months)

I think a lot have found Wonga to be one of the more reasonable to deal with. Have you worked out roughly what you paid in interest? And a figure yoy would think is reasonable? Remember the ombudsman are unlikely to consider the first two or three as unaffordable unless there was major issues already on your credit file.

It's going back a few months now but I allowed Wonga the extra time (i responded saying that i acknowledged their request for extra time and that I would only persue the case with the ombudsman if they failed to meet their own exrended time limit or if the response was unsuitable.)

I had wrote down three different scenarios that they could follow in lines of unaffordability and workes out a figure I wanted. When they came back to me the figure was in my ballpark area so I was happy to accept and payment was made within about three days.

If you want to allocate it to the ombudsman to get it in the queue that is up to you. There is nothing to stop you still dealing with Wonga if they make you an offer before the adjudacator has looked at your case.

Any idea what would be a good ballpark figure?
  • The initial / principle loan and any top ups to the original loan are not included, so around £3018 from what info you have put above

For info, I sent my complaint to the ombudsman after eight weeks. I had the same email from them.

  • Hi folks, first time poster...

I can't tell you all how happy I am that I stumbled upon this forum. Wonga had me in a vice like grip for almost 3 years. I am fortunate that I managed to break the cycle of rolling advances but the damage both financially and mentally was horrific at the time (last PDL August 2014).

It started when my partner was on maternity leave and (predictably) spiralled to a level where I was paying almost all of my salary to Wonga, often applying for another loan the very same day! I feel no shame in saying I'll be going after them for compensation and I have already requested my statement of accounts.

Good luck to anybody else trying to get their life back on track having dealt with these PDL's.

    Regards,

  • Hello,
Just awaiting the final response from the Ombudsman with regards to my Lending Stream case. Has anyone had any experience with how fast Lending Stream pay out after Ombudsman instruction? Thanks

  • Hi guys

I'm new on here and just discovered these threads. I've had loads of payday loans over the past 5 years (more than £25k in total). I just wanted to know how to get started on reclaiming some of the money back. Also, what is it that I'm supposed to be reclaiming. Is it just unfair interest or other stuff as well. Any tips on what to do from scratch would be really welcome guys. Thanks
