I'd not keep them more than 2-3 days.. but TBH if they lasted more than 24 hours in here I'd think there was something wrong!

    Hi Andy,

The longest I would keep cooked chicken for is three days, and only if it's been cooled quickly and kept covered in the fridge for that time.

There's a recent thread on this subject that may help so I'll add your post to it.

DH bought a ready cooked chicken today from supermarket and we havent had it yet as our plans changed today...So I have picked all the meat off it etc and put it in the fridge then I noticed it said on the bag eat on day of purchase...Would this be ok to eat tomorrow?
Any help would be appreciated as I dont want to give it to DS if it will be unfit to eat..
    Many thanks

will it still be ok today?

i roasted it on sunday, and we had roast.

picked it over and had lemon chicken and new pots on monday.

had chicken and mushroom pasta bake yesterday.

got stew today with the rest of the 'pickings'.

was going to boil the carcass and wings today to make soup to freeze.

chicken has been kept in the fridge all the time, except for 2hrs after cooking to cool.

    advice?
  • I would say yes, as long as whatever you cook is heated thoroughly. I have some lamb in the fridge since Sunday which I fully intend to eat tonight (thanks for reminding me ;)).

I agree - I work on the principal of "if it smells okay - it is okay!!"

ALTHOUGH not sure about re-freezing it again in the soup. If you were cooking it up to eat now, IMHO I think that would be safer.

I don't see any problem with freezing the soup if the cooked chicken hasn't already been frozen before. If you cooked the chicken from fresh or frozen then you can freeze it when cooked. What you shouldn't do is thaw cooked chicken then refreeze it.
