Received an email from BT - copied and pasted -

Important information about your email service
Hello,

As you've used your email address in the last 90 days, we need to let you know about some changes we're making.

We're closing some of our older email services. That means your BT email address might stop working after 24th February 2018, unless you add it to your BT Broadband account. If you don't do that, you'll lose your email address as well as the contacts and messages associated with it.

Is this spam or are BT actually deleting emails - this is on my active email address I use for most things

It's probably not spam, it could be that they intend to delete email addresses of people who used to be customers , but aren't anymore and haven't signed up to keep the email address alive...if you are a BT broadband customer then perhaps your email address is not (for some reason) associated with your broadband account.
Someone who was no longer a BT customer but still uses the BT email address, would have to either sign up to the £5 a month to keep the address alive or risk it being deleted as they obviously wouldn't have a broadband account to associate the email address with

is a few years old, but would seem to suggest that it's a phishing scam.
