Capquest?

Hi
Appologies if this is in the wrong section.
The last few months I keep receiving a phone call from a mobile number, the person on the other end says she is from a company called capquest, they then ask for my date of birth, full name and address. Obviously I am not going to give this info out over the phone to someone calling me from a mobile number. They say they cannot discuss anything unless I answer these questions. I have asked them to send me a letter to confirm what this is about but a letter never comes. I have googled them and they seem like a debt company.
About 8 years ago I had a few money problems after losing my job/being young and stupid. I had a car loan and credit card which I had some money owing on. I couldn't afford the repayments and ended up with a CCJ and some defaults. I haven't heard anything about these for about 6/7 years. The ccj/defaults are no longer on my credit files. I moved home last year and have a mortgage and good credit rating now. No negative aspects.
Could someone please help with how I can find out what this is? Is there a template letter I could send to this company asking what it's about? I don't know much about statute barred, but have read you should never admit anything. I am guessing if this company have bought one of my debts from years ago they would now be statute barred?
Am I best just ignoring them or should i write to them?
Many thanks

Never, ever, ring capquest.
Never, ever confirm, or deny anything on the phone.
Always insist that they write to you and, if you are going to respond then make sure you do it in writing.0 -
Hi there,
I agree that you should not give personal details like this over the phone (especially when it is a mobile number - very odd) and you have done the right thing by asking for a letter. Until a letter arrives there isn't much you can do in reality. You could consider complaining the next time they call, ask to speak to a manager and argue this is harassing behaviour.
If a letter does arrive we can look at it in more detail. There could be an issue with the age of the debts under the limitations act and we do have a sample letter to use in reply if this is the case. Please be aware that under the Limitations Act 1980 it states, if there has been a 6 year block of time since the debt fell due, with no written acknowledgement or payment to the debt and no county court action started, then the debt may no longer be enforceable through the county court and becomes known as Statute Barred.
This wouldn't apply to the debt that got the CCJ, however, first of all it would be up to the debt collector to prove the judgement and, second of all, they would need special permission from the court to enforce a CCJ that has not been enforced within 6 years.

You can't really write to them until they tell you (in writing) what this is. It might be one of your old debts that are now statute barred, it might be the old ccj which would not be statute barred, or it might be nothing to do with you and they are just fishing via a mobile number they have been given.
If they do write, send a prove-it letter0
