Yes a big pain but I think it's the kick up the bottom I need to finally get rid of this debt.
Did you manage to clear all yours in time? X

We just managed to clear the accounts they specified but OMG we could have done without the additional stress tbh xx

It all went back up tho as we had everything to buy when we moved :rotfl:

    LMSTM,

I echo above - don't worry too much about the exchange deadline. We had to exchange by deadline of 28th November (35 days from our builder), we actually exchanged 9th December and there was no issue - as long as they can see you are moving forward and putting everything in place you should be fine :)

Definitely a kick in the rear to clear your debt too...I half wish there had been a condition of debt reduction on ours, I'd have sold everything that wasn't nailed down :rotfl:

  • Thanks guys :) No idea how I will clear in all in 5 months though.
I just made a payment of £400 to cc1 :) which brings my debt down to £5450. Still so much!
Thank you for reassuring me about the deadline... they keep sending scary emails about their strict deadline. It's my HA that will cause the problems :(

What is the estimated completion date for you at the moment?

Are you doing surveys etc? I managed £90 through a combo of YG and 1P this month (although it took about 10 weeks to get to that payout, it's still free money

eBay was my friend at the start of this journey - I sold anything I didn't use or like, including a lot of dresses which went for a nice amount (way less than I paid, but still more than I had)

It will all be worth it when you are in your lovely new house. We moved in on Friday and I can't imagine being anywhere else - worth all the stress and worry :)

  • Completion is end of may/June! So why do I have to exchange so early?! :(

Congratulations!! Made up for you!! Must be amazing to have got through it all and be in your lovely new home. I'm only at the beginning of the process but I'm finding it the most stressful thing ever!!

My HA are the worst kind of people. Liars... been emailing them everyday asking for the memorandum of sale so my solicitors can actually start doing their job but my contact at the HA just ignores me. Even though she said she was going to send it last week. Today I got her out of office until after xmas! I phoned up and spoke to someone else who said that they haven't picked a solicitor yet!:(
Then later on I got an email from the sales progress team for my new house forwarding me an email from my contact at the HA saying it was all in hand with solicitors and they are progressing as much as they can before xmas!!

  • PAY DAY!! Woo! I always find this time of year the hardest. It's such a long time until January pay day and there are too many sales to be tempted by.
I've been given a voucher for my favourite shop so look forward to spending that in the sales and hopefully that will satisfy my urge to shop a little.

I've just moved £350 over to my holiday fund bringing the total up £1250 :) only £250 to go now and the balance is due in March :j

I'll wait for my direct debits to come out for my credit cards and then if I have anything left by January pay I will transfer the rest over (I always say this).

I've finished all my Christmas shopping and wrapped most of it too. Today is my last day at work until next Wednesday. Can't wait for a few days off to relax and spend with family :) :xmastree:

  • Wow where did Christmas go?! :(

Just on my way into work on this delightful cold, foggy morning. I've been in the three working days this week and can't wait for the long weekend.

I haven't been too bad with money lately. We have been out for a couple of meals with friends but kept the costs low (not buying alcohol helps).
I'm really going to knuckle down in the New Year and aim for more NSD's and update on here more regularly to keep track. I've been buying lunch out this week purely because I'm unprepared and haven't been bothered to shop. It's annoying coz I know I'm wasting money.

It's going to be a long wait to January pay day.

My brother and his girlfriend have just got engaged so need to go them a card and a small gift. They are going out tomorrow with friends for lunch but I know it will cost a fortune so I explained I couldn't afford it.

We don't have any plans for NYE. I'm not a fan so we are just going to get some nice food in and have a quiet one.
Probably the last one in our flat!
I'm hoping to know more next week about the sale of our flat. I can't wait to know if it's all going through ok and if we will get our house or not.

I hope you all have a lovely NYE however you're celebrating and I look forward to joining you all in the new year to bust this debt together xx

  • Happy New Year everyone!

Right, this is the year I become debt free!!

Like others I hate January and I usually get quite down this time of year. It's ages until pay day, ages until my next holiday, ages until my next day off and I've put on weight over Christmas. Bleugh.
My gym was closed for over a week for Christmas so I'm going to get back there this week and back into a routine.
I'm going to try and keep socialising to a minimum this month and concentrate on my debt and selling our flat.

My £100 dd went onto cc2 this morning bringing that card total down to £2300 :)
£300 is due to go onto cc1 in the next few days. I'm also due a bonus at the end of Jan. Probably about £200, which will go straight onto debt.
Cc1 has a 0% interest rate which is going to expire in the next month or so, so I need to phone them up and find out when exactly.
I have two empty credit cards, both offering 0% interest with a 3% fee so will transfer over to one of those and close my old account. Hate the fact I have to pay 3% though. I've done loads of balance transfers over the years and the fee has never really bothered me because I just think what's another £100 when I'm already £1000's in debt but now it's just annoying because I feel like I'm taking a step back and throwing money away.

    Let's do this!!

Happy New Year! You are doing great on the debt front! Over half way there. I hate paying interest on my credit cards now, just view it as such a waste of money.
    Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

  • Thanks CMD! I'm really trying :)

CC1 has £3050 on it and the 0% expires in February or March (I need to find out).

Anyway CC1 has an offer to transfer money into my account for a 1.5% fee..

My question is can I transfer the money from my cc to my account and then use that money to pay off the balance on my cc with the rate that is about to end??

I have a limit of £7k on the card so I have enough and it's a good card where any money paid onto it always clears the debt with the soonest 0% interest expiry.

Otherwise I can transfer the balance onto a different existing card at 3% fee.
