June 2016 Grocery Challenge

  • I'm finally taking the plunge and taking part in the GC :T

Please could you put me down for £175 for June (29th May to 2nd July)?

My story is as follows: When now-hubby and I started our joint budget 6ish years ago, we allowed £150 per month for food (incl toiletries, alchohol, etc). We don't change the amount based on no. of weeks, but it generally worked out that way on average.

We did quite well for a time, but inflation/ lack of discipline got the better of us. We were spending more like £160 to £170. As I like to come in under budget, I reset our monthly allowance to £200 (!), which month by month we have gotten closer to and Jan to Mar this year, we averaged £211 per month.(There's still just 2 of us btw)

Hopefully my target will be a challenge but not impossible :D I'm away atm, but I know our freezer has a couple of pizzas, some chicken drumsticks, chicken goujons, and 2 portions of sausages, amongst other things.

Enough from me for now, I'll entertain/ bore (delete as appropriate) you with more details of my grocery habits over the coming weeks...

Missed a few months, but back now hoping to get back on track. Been shopping a bit randomly the last few months. Not getting meat out of the freezer in advance, so ending up spending more in the shops buying food every few days.

Could you put me down for £360

This will be for 2 adults and 3 children, one in nappies full time and all three at home all day. Also our cat is included in this.

Thanks for organising. My month will run from the 1st June until 1st July. xx

    Afternoon all,

I've been lurking for a few months now in honesty and not really keeping track of what we've been spending but I can be sure it must be over budget. I tried a cash budget a couple of pay checks ago and whilst it worked I didn't feel overly confident in managing it every month.

Instead I will go back to my other way (card for groceries etc and cash for personal spends) and monitor this months spends.

I have made a shopping list, divided up between stores so that I can get the best value for money for what we're after and have included more variety than usual as now the warmer weather is rumoured to be on it's way OH will be more flexible with what he eats ;)

So please can you put me down for a budget of £130 this includes: all food and drink, alcohol, cleaning supplies, toiletries and non-prescription medicine/healthcare items, plus nappies and wipes.

This month I will be £100, as I am here, there and everywhere.
I will update my totals for April later on this afternoon, as i had a last minute spend for work lunches.
Thanks for starting the thread up.

Please can I join for June? I've not done a grocery challenge for a long time but need to be strict about where our money is going. My budget is £145 but I would like to do it weekly as that is how I'm paid. It is for 2 adults and 2 children and thankfully our youngest is out of nappies during the day now so should save a few quid there
