Stainless Steel warning

We make bespoke kitchens. My husband worked for years at British Steel.
I am sick and tired of buying products that are stated as stainless steel and then after a time they obviously are not. Stainless steel can corrode if not kept clean but it does not rust.

I have bought very expensive stainless steel items in the past that have turned out to be plated, you cannot tell by looking at it.
All I can say is consumers beware, and suppliers get your act together!

For years I used to believe the magnet trick but there are some stainless steels that are magnetic (to a degree). Ferritic Stainless Steel is magnetic whilst austenitic Stainless Steel is not.

and the question is , which is the correct stainless steek to manufacture a sink out of?

point taken on "degree" however a tin plate sink that is plated is a greater degree when it comes to the magnet test

Lots of suitable grades. The most common being 316.
