I have some digestive problems and so make up a mix to take before meals which includes ginger juice and I was wondering if anyone knew a more efficient way of extracting it from the root?
At the moment, I peel a lump, grate it into a bowl (which also catches any spare juice) and then squeeze the grated bits in an old garlic crusher (which I keep especially for this). It's all a bit of a faff!
Does anyway have a better way of doing it?

I don't have a better idea, but you can buy crystallized ginger. It is very nice and I have it often. Would this be easier?

Thanks for the suggestion. I need juice as I mix it with lemon juice, honey & turmeric to get a mix that I take a teaspoon of before meals (great for digestion). I love crystallised ginger too!0 -
Do you have a blender?
If so, put the ginger cut into small, chunks in it with the lemon juice, blend and strain through a small fine sieve or a piece of muslin.
You don't even need to peel the ginger this way.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
Hi,
you may find it in Holland & Barrett,

Use a proper ginger grater/grinder (online or from somewhere like an Oriental supermarket - there's one on the Lakeland website for under £4). Don't bother peeling it, just give yourself a cut face to rub against the teeth, and move it around in circles. You get as much juice as possible that way. IT takes a bit more time, but it's far less exertion and is far more effective at getting what you want from it.
And, obviously, you make sure you get big, fat, heavy for their size pieces in the first place. If it's fresh like that (oriental/Asian/ethnic stores are incredibly cheap for large amounts), you can peel it if you have to by using the side of a teaspoon rather than a peeler, as well.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I make a tea out of those ingredients - grate/chop ginger and turmeric, boil up with sliced lemon. Refrigerate when cool. Mine is usually quite strong so I put boiling water in a cup, top up with my 'tea' mix and then add honey to taste (apparently you shouldn't heat honey). It's lovely and very easily done. Lasts at least a week too0

Try frozen ginger cubes from As^a. R A J brand. Not sure if anything like oil is added to th ginger pulp before freezing.CUL8R0
