    The "Save 12k in 2018" Thread! 5th Dec 17 at 9:10 PM
So, the title is pretty self explanatory, but this is the place to be in 2018 it's that time of year, again!

In 2018, the aim is to save £12k (or, any other amount if you like) from 1st January 2018 til 31st December 2018. I know it's early, but it gives you the time to plan for how you are going to do it.

    RULES:

    - This challenge starts on 1st January 2018 00:00 and finishes on 31st December 2018 23:59.
    - Everything saved MUST be done between these two dates.
    - Any interest gained during this challenge on your savings can be counted!

Thinking of signing up but before I declare a total I was wondering:

    - Would capital paid off mortgage count?
    - Would pension contributions count?

I ask because I currently overpay my mortgage and will be upping my pension contribution next FY and therefore 'cash savings' will be lower than previous. If they don't count then I would need to take that into account before I could give a savings figure.

    Thanks.

Sign me up! I'll aim for £10,000, though that may go to pot if housebuying becomes a reality later in the year.

Count me in again please SF. I'll raise the bar slightly and aim for £3000 this year, as I've beaten my £2500 target the last 2 years.

    Thanks

That's just me though; there's no right or wrong on this forum. You do whatever works for you Niv, it's all a good use of money!

However, the beauty of this challenge is that you can make it whatever you want and I'd say it's more important to be consistent with your criteria than sticking to someone else's criteria if they don't suit you.

I think there are mortgage overpayment challenges if you're interested in those but I'm not there yet

Started this challenge in 2016 but didn't manage to keep it up i'm afraid. Battling a few inner demons right now but i'd be happy to set my target for 10k in 2018 and hopefully contribute more to the forum!

Hi SF, could you sign me up for £5000 this year again. I didn't make it last year, but this is the first year I'll be starting with 0 debts not even a Christmas present on the old CC. So hoping to smash it this year.
