I must say the general tone of this forum is much more aggressive than it used to be.

Hi
I am a tenant of a council flat. The council is a London Borough but the flats are not in London. In the past year, as the flats become empty due to death or people moving out, the council has put them on the open market to sell the lease.
They have done this with about 5 flats in the last year. The flats are advertised in a local estate agent.
There has been no consultation about this move.
To clarify, these are not flats being sold by leaseholders. They are social housing flats previously occupied by council tenants.
I know the Govt has instructed councils to sell their most valuable properties but these definitely do not come into that category. Quite the reverse.
I wondered if anyone on here knows if this is legal?
Who exactly do you think they should have consulted before going about their lawful business? You, by any chance?0 -

No, if I'd wanted to be aggressive I would've said something like - mind your own business - but I didn't so I think I'm in the clear :rotfl:0 -

??
Neighbours don't ask you before putting up their house for sale.
Why should the council ask random people if they don't mind them selling property that belongs to the council?0 -

Quite simply because it's absolutely none of the OP's business :beer:0 -
lincroft1710 In the words of Bernie:I only asked.

The council selling off properties is everybody's business. You could talk to the councillor who has responsibility for housing or any councillor for that matter, and find out what their thinking is behind it. You might find that it's a sensible solution, or you might find that it's just an easy way for them to get rid of their responsibilities and make a bit of money, in which case you could start a group lobbying against it.0

Oh, I see. So in that case, the Council should've consulted with everyone then just to make sure that everyone was happy with their plan to sell their own properties - yeah, right - duh!
However, I do like your idea of the OP making a complete fool of themselves by starting a lobbying group - that'll really put the fear of God into the Council :rotfl::rotfl:0
