Hi everyone,

As the last 'preparing for winter' thread has now grown quite long, I think it's time for a new one, and what better time of year to begin to prepare than the end of November :)

So here goes....a shiny new thread. Please post below all your preparations for winter. If you want to read through the tips on the older threads you can find them here:

  • Just in time for winter. Any more news on the big freeze expected this winter or is it all a hoax?
  • You took the words out of my mouth Southantrim3. I was just wondering that myself.
    Lovely new thread. Thank you.

Thanks for the new thread :).
So paper spills and kindling or firelighters? Which do you find best or is it wise to have some of each?

    Subscribed to this new thread.

It's always advisable in this country to prepare for cold in winter & warm in summer, moderate cross between the 2 during Spring & Autumn. If you do prepare, no weather should be a total surprise. :)

When it snows in June is when I will really get worried. :D

anyway, I shall be preparing for winter...cos it's winter!!

I'd love some snow but unless you live up north I doubt we'll get much...:(

That's just what we all do.
Prepare for the worst & hope for the best.

Exactly. It's kind of fun as well preparing for winter. I secretly like the idea of being snowbound for a few days...candles burning, homemade soup, snowy walks. beautiful scenery...NO CARS DRIVING ABOUT!

Of course for the elderly and disabled it's probably not a good time. So look out for any elderly neighbours if the weather gets bad...

I worry about my Dad & not being able to get to him if he needs me.

Thanks for the new thread Zippychick, we rattle through them don't we?
Can I just pass on a little tip to users of microwave heatbags? I find that sometimes they can be quite damp when heated up. Keeping them hanging over a radiator means they are alway dry and ready for use. I also place a heated one on the dashboard while I'm de-icing the windowscreen. Hurries the job up and means that you have a lapwarmer to use on your journey!
A reminder too: I've just realised that both of my oven-type gas lighters, which I use for candles in the winter, are in the shed at the bottom of the garden. (Used to light bonfires in the summer) Must remember to rescue them before snow or flooding prevents me from getting down there!
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
