I thought I'd share a little bit about my namesake. This book by Amanda Foreman is how I first found out about Georgiana (I haven't seen the film though) and this blog post has a good summary of her life. I especially like this paragraph:
"Despite that she was married to one of the wealthiest men in the kingdom, she was constantly borrowing money from her friends, from the Prince of Wales, and would flatter the wealthy banker Thomas Coutts with her friendship in exchange for his settling some of her debts."
I wish the people at MBNA or Barclayrcard were so susceptible to flattery! :)

Working from home today as I had a few appointments to fit in. I've also collected Wilkos, Boots and H&B orders (sunblock and essential toiletries from Wilkos and supplements from Boots). I've stopped buying things in store unless I'm really desperate, instead I check out the special offers, order online after going through TopCashBack and then order to collect in store. I saved a lot on the sunblock and shower gel etc and got a 3 for 2 on the Boots supplements & buy 1 get 1 for a penny from H&B.

I have a chronic health condition which entitles me to a medical exemption card from prescription costs - my silver lining! But my specialist also recommended I take certain supplements which aren't covered by my magic free prescription card, and they get expensive so I always look for special offers and stock up when I can. So I've spent £40 on them this week but that is better than £65 when they are full price.

Also went to vote. I've never been so despondent about an election before but I am always lecturing people about how important it is to vote, so I had to force myself to the polling station :p
I didn't know you could order online from Wilkos! That's good to know. Maybe I'll order a washing up bowl ;) .

Well done for making it to the polling station. I took my 3DC along for the experience, they are huge fans of voting, because we buy cake afterwards. It's created some kind of pavlovian response.
Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.
Divorcing, unclear on final debt total right now, but focusing on building a financial buffer zone.

    Evening GC,

Well done on getting out to vote!!!

I also have a prescription card due to my thyroid. Luckily (if you can call it lucky) thats the only medication I need to get at the moment.

That would be amazing if they were down for a bit of flattery, I reckon I could work my charm if so :rotfl: xx

New to posting so bear with me but want to keep a record of what i have achieved so far in battle with debt - i have history of depression and anxiety and hubby had a back injury which resulted in change of job where we lost shift allowance. Anyway this is what i have managed to sort so far:
Barclaycard - debt Jan 2017 - £10500 ...spoke to them and now on a payment plan of £250.00 per month but interest is 3% so interest monthly has gone from over £170.00 down to 25.00 - i have already paid off £1500.00.
SKY - reduced monthly bill from 95 down to 53
CAR PARK PASS - got a new job where parking is free - saving 38 per mth
cancelled GMB union member ship 13.00 per month
cancelled english heritage membership - 7.71
cancelled curry helpline 6.00 per month
Just by changing a few things i am now putting a big dent in my credit card bill as this was cuasing my enxiety to go through the roof and saving £106 per month.
So just wanted to share this and really its a good way for me to see how far i have come.

Hi Marcie, hello and welcome! Well done on what you've done so far on your debt busting, it sounds like you've made a great start with cancelling unnecessary subscriptions :) You are very welcome to continue to post here but you would probably get more views and advice from the other people on this forum if you were to post a new thread in the Debt Free Diaries section (just use the pink Start New Thread button on this page )
Let me know if you do start another thread and I'll pop over and subscribe :)

So ... not happy with the General Election results. Would have preferred either a Conservative or Labour majority government over a hung parliament. I think that a hung parliament (and the resulting coalition) puts us in the worst possible position for negotiating the least damaging Brexit deal.
BUT ... I put a £2.50 bet on the election resulting in a hung parliament, so I made £10 in winnings.

One of our friends bet £100 on Leave winning the Brexit Referendum (he's a passionate Remainer) and he won £1000. He then put £100 on Donald Trump winning the Presidential vote and won £800. He's been disappointed with the results of both elections but the money won was a silver lining. I could never bring myself to gamble such a large amount of money but I decided to copy him on a very small scale with money that I could afford to lose, I've only won £10 but the idea of buying a tall and frosty cocktail by the pool in Marrakech next week has temporarily made me a bit more cheerful about the result.

    I do this too :rotfl:

I think of the worst possible outcome and I place a tiny bet on it. This way, if things go my way I'm happy, if things go badly then at least I've made a little bit of money :rotfl:
