    Looking at the final results a fair number of people seem to have fallen away in November/December which is a bit of a shame :( If I had the time I'd go back over all the challenges so far and work out things like the percentage of people who finish compared to the number who start. It would be interesting to see. Not meaning to knock those who stop because there could well generally be good reasons for it.

  • #28 declaring £556.72 for December, bringing me to a grand total for the year of £6,746.34. That is £253.66 short of the £7,000 I had aimed for but I am very happy with it, as it is still a decent amount. I am looking forward to this year's challenge.....

  • #46 reporting in - £1474 saved in December and £13184 in 2017 overall. Beating my original target of £12000.

    Looks really good on paper, but my considerable wage increase since setting the target means that £12000 should have been a complete walkover (and wasn't).
    Having said that, holidays in Greece, Italy, France and long weekends in Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Belgium were definitely worth it and without this thread I may have frittered away much more of the extra instead of restricting additional spending to 'just' holidays so still pretty pleased with what I've achieved. Onwards and upwards in 2018!

    #9 Reporting for £1848.47 for Dec 2017. First year that I tracked my savings rate which is at just under 50%. Total of £15848.84 which is about £4k less than the previous year. I believe lifestyle inflation is creeping up on me through the cracks of daily living. I am not terribly impressed with the numbers but hey ho, I am still in the positive balance which is something to be grateful for. We take what we get.

    I shall be taking part in the Uber Frugal Month Challenge for the month of January 2018 to see if I can improve things on the expenses front and also on take some responsibility for some of the choices I am making on a daily basis. Very useful exercise for the financially intrigued person.

    On another note, we seem have fewer people completing it this year in 2017 compared to 2016, collective savings have fallen. I hope we can pick this up in 2018 and see more people join. Reach out and encourage others to join this useful exercise.

    Hope we all achieved some of our targets in 2017 and even if we didn't, learnt why or how we failed, and try again in 2018! See you all in the 2018 thread.

  • #047 reporting for the final month of December 2017 with a sun of £1193.10 the highest amounts of savings for the whole year (although not directly down to my efforts!).

    Total amount saved in 2017 is therefore: £6208.93.

    Unfortunately I fell short of my initial target of £7,000 by £791.07. It's annoying because with a bit of a better plan at the start I may have been able to make up that amount but this challenge has certainly kept me honest and put me in a good frame of mind going into 2018!

    Happy new year everyone :) No 89 reporting £2423.51 for December. A bit late reporting as have been at work over Christmas and new year and not had time before. Congratulation to Slowlyfading on your new baby and thank you for all your work running this thread :) See you on the 2018 thread soon for next update :)

  • Just to update for November and December to complete the year's spreadsheet.

    I saved £0 on both months.

    As I had reached my savings goal in October, so we put some money towards a few DIY jobs in the house and renewing some of the fixtures and fittings. Also paid for Christmas from my salary so I didn't have to touch my savings for that.

    Well chuffed.

    Thanks to all on this thread for the motivation over the last year and to Slowlyfading for doing all of the running around that goes with it.

    Update for November was + £325.31 and December was - £620.28. I would have broke even (and then some) but we've booked a trip to Australia so as you can imagine that stalled the savings quite a bit!!

    Total: £8507.30 for 2017 - on to 2018!!

  • Apologies all for having been MIA for a few months. It's been nuts. I ended the year with 9564GBP instead of 15k (BOO!).

    However, a pay rise + a nice bonus payment will help this year hopefully. So I have quite ambitious goals. I'll be joining the challenge if ok too?

    Can I be put down for 20k this year please?
