whole nutmeg

most xmas recipes i've seen (esp cake, pudding, mincemeat etc.) seem to call for nutmeg, preferably whole, freshly grated... its really expensive in the supermarket - over £1.50 last time i looked in tescos - so when i spotted this i was really excited!

the fruit and veg stall i regularly go to in Ashton under Lyne (near Manchester) are selling whole nutmegs for 10p each - just ask em how many you want. They also sell dried pulses and i asked them today about selling dried fruit, esp in the run up to xmas. Apparently its a question of space, but they're thinking about it.

Anyway, if anyone is local to Ashton/Manchester, and wants to get some: its the stall on the corner of the market, opposite both iceland and McDonalds, next to the stall that sells all the deodorants/cleaning fluids/toothpaste etc. etc.

hope thats useful to someone!

have a look in Aisian supermarkets (or if your tescos has a section) for spices - we got a big bag of nutmegs for about £2 and they last forever.
