Back again....
DH has been busy, not only has he insulated a pipe, he made use of the scaffolding and cleaned the gutters he could safely reach. He also cleaned the window frames that were in reach.
Tomorrow we are planning to visit the farm shop to stock up on meat, and a trip to go outdoors DS needs walking boots, socks and waterproof trousers. My other DS had a coat delivered today, DH and I were saying earlier that just a year or two ago they were going out in winter wearing hoodies as coats, what a difference a little bit of maturity and common sense makes.
It's costing us quite a lot but they both seem to have stopped growing so hopefully they will get lots of wear out of their coats/boots. There's always youngest DS to grow into them!

Isn`t that a waste of medicines? Our surgery only allows 1 month prescription so how can you stockpile?0 -
PC is on public forum warning of severe cold and brown and blackouts this winter. He is having an important meeting soon at westminster. All on his WA pages, not in my forecast, which I don`t yet have.0

It's none prescription medication some childrens medicines, if they're poorly, which isn't often I don't want to give them something that may be less effective if its expired. And the other stuff was mainly items my husband has bought, cough medicines (my pet hate!!) and bonjela for ulcers. And for some reason we have 3 bottles of piriton, only one in date(kept), All had been used but not in a long time.Spreading a little Christmas joy all year round :santa2:0 -
best to get rid of an open bottle within a month regardless of use by dates. (3 months at a push:) ) The sachet stuff - although more expensive to start with, can be better if you only use it very infrequently because then you can keep it all to the end of the use by which is normally 1-2 yrs.0

I've gathered all our torches and camping lights together. I'm going check batteries etc and get the teens to give the wind up torches and lanterns a good wind up so we can check them.
I've looked at our battery store but could do with some more. I'm going to recharge the rechargeables.
I managed to get a thermos flask today. I also bought some more bottled water, hot chocolate and marshmallows. If the electricity does go off we can still have a little treat.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but I always keep the petrol topped up. I try not to let it fall much below half full. If we do have frequent power cuts, I'm guessing that people will start to panic buy. Just a thought. Doesn't harm to be prepared.
Have a warm and cosy evening.

I've made pumpkin soup today for the first time ever! I was surprised how good it tastes. I made it with some gently fried onions and some curry powder, spiced it up with some smoked paprika and a few chilli flakes, salt and pepper and then swirled in some creme fraiche. It tasted a little bland so I stirred in a couple of tablespoons of garlic and chilli sauce and now its just gorgeous. I jushed it up with the stick blender and then pushed it through a sieve (which seemed to take forever but never mind)
I've made enough for me and hubs six generous bowlfuls each. He likes a bowl of soup with a ham or cheese sandwich at lunchtime so that will do us a good few meals over the winter months.
I save the one pint plastic milk containers and then store my home made soup in those in the freezer.
I'm feeling a little bit more prepared for the cold weather that is supposedly coming next week. Nothing like some home made soup for warming the cockles!:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -

What a brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing0 -
I re-use all my margarine tubs for freezing as well, they are just so much more durable and pliable than others I've used. I just stick a strip of masking tape on the top and write on that so I know what is inside. Masking tape is great, it doesn't come off in the freezer.
Margarine tubs seem to stack better and make better use of the space as well.
No point spending money when you don't need to is there lol!:hello:  please play nicely children !0
