The £1,000 emergency fund challenge. 3rd Oct 14 at 10:35 PM
For the idea for this after listerning to the 'Dave Ramsey Show'.

The idea is to accumulate an emergency fund of £1,000 sitting in a Bank account just in case of emergencies.

You must not leave yourself short in order to reach your goal.

    Complete!

I need to replace my laptop when I find one I like (the 2 so far have been out of stock when I go to buy, grrr) but am hoping I can make do with an old PC for a while longer and not touch the EF.

Well done to Kim_13 for reaching the target.

My EF is now back over the halfway mark again and I have got my 3-6 month fund above the £100 mark, so well pleased.

New job going well (so far). The company even paid to get the machine manufacturer in to do a days training.

No 112 reporting, not been on for a while as RL has been hectic, but still chipping away at my EF which stands at £624.00, finally over the £500 which seemed to be a stumbling block.

    Evening everyone!

Slinking back in after withdrawing £180 from my EF to buy the little one an isofix base and new car seat. I'm now down to £820 and will work on reaching £1000 once again over the next few months.

Car cost £110 for 2 new tyres. Add to this, £54 for the MOT & still got a bill to come for repairing the horn, so not so bad after all.

I own a Berlingo and the one issue they seem to develope is a faukt whereby the horn only works with the ignition off. This requires the removal of the airbag and the cleaning of the contacts.
I reckon 2 hours labour, so another £120 all-in and the car is good to go for another year.

On the 'other expenses' front, I will admit to using some of my EF to purchase a new tablet to replace the one I dropped and broke last year.

So that is a bad moment for me (I suffer from depression and spending money used to give me a buzz for a while, but I have it under control for now).

    Hi everyone

I haven't popped in for a while. My EF has been quite nicely settled at just over £1.1k

I need new tyres on my car I know they are going to be about £150 per tyre but....I've been using YNAB and budgeting for car maintenance and I have enough under this category heading to cover buying the tyres without touching the EF

My husband did ask what the EF was for if I am budgeting for things like car maintenance, household maintenance etc. in YNAB. I said it was for anything major where we don't have enough in the budget under any other relevant category. He just looked confused

I would suggest shopping around for tyres. Mine are 185/65 R15s and I went for Avon at £60 each balanced and fitted.
