What shall I wear to my wedding???

Hi all
So after 13 years together, me and the OH are tying the knot next year. We're not keen on 'weddings' and all the trappings thereof, we just want to sign on the line and make it official. We're having the smallest ceremony possible - just us and 4 witnesses - followed by a nice meal in our favourite restaurant for about 15 people. Lashings of bubbly and a few cocktails and I'll be happy
Problem is - what the hell do I wear??!! I'm 43, plus size, been married before and the thought of a "wedding dress" brings me out in a cold sweat! Plus, 10 minutes in the registry office and then a stroll across town for lunch in a public restaurant is hardly the setting for a big white frock is it?!
PLEASE help - how do I look pretty and bride-y without looking ridiculous?? I really have no idea about this stuff!

What about a vintage style dress like one of these?

Not very MSE but try Chesca - very good for plus sizes and great variety.0

Have you had a look at TKMAXX?
They do have bigger sizes but you have to hunt them out. If you see something you like that you would be happy to wear again and feel happy in then that would be ideal."This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
My friend got married last year and is a plus size. She wore a dress similar to those suggested above and looked fabulous.

Christmas is not a time but a state of mind :xmassmile
Trying.....Very trying- as my DH would say

I was seriously tempted by a Vivien of Holloway dress when I got married. They do a wedding dress range as well, but mostly they're vintage inspired dresses in fancy fabrics around the £100 mark. I believe they do up to a size 24. I love the Grace dress personally and think it would flatter a plus size figure beautifully. If you want a more wearable version simply don't bother with a petticoat underneath.

OR you could try a 20's beaded flapper dress, that you could wear again to somebody else's wedding day
Some of these look great - http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/vintage-1920s-flapper-dressHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. I had a beaded Phase 8 dress in some sort of cream colour.
Not actually a wedding dress, bought in the sale, worn again since . Off the peg, no alterations
Was very very sure that I didn't want meringues, veils or the fuss0 -
Personally, I don't think those vintage dresses are particularly flattering for someone older and larger - I know I'd feel rather frumpy in them.
Marisota have some lovely dresses that might be suitable - I particularly like these.

Thank you all SO much for your replies!
Those vintage style lindybop frocks are just divine, but I suffer with chronic odeama in my lower legs which renders them as shapely and attractive as a couple of post boxes. So it's maxi dresses all the way!!
I'm also pretty stacked, so I'm self conscious in anything too low cut. I have a small waist though, and don't want to swamp it with empire line or similar - I end up looking like Mama Cass!0
