Thanks for stopping by my diary. Did it cure any insomnia you are experiencing?

  • Today I have mostly been cleaning filthy kitchen venetian blinds. I can't count the amount of times I thought about throwing them and purchasing some roman blinds. But I didn't and now they are sparkly white again.

After pealing off all the badly painted tiles we found three different colour tiles. Se we re-painted (with tile paint this time) all the tiles to match the splashbacks. Tile paint works! It looks great :)

Sounds lovely - wished I had an older house sometimes so you could find cool stuff like that :). As ours was new build, all we find is either stuff we've paid for or stuff the builders have neglected to do! Your kitchen sounds ace!
  • Hi Blibble, unfortunatley brown and peach tiles aren't ace these days lol. The different wallpapers we uncovered though were amazing. So on top we had two different types of woodchip paper, under that was huge bright orange flowers (70's?), then under that was dainty brown and yellow flowers (50's) AND under that was white paper with old red and green clocks, chickens, flowers, weighing scales (there is some of that left in the pantry and I can't bear to remove it).

In money news - We had a blocked toilet over the weekend and spotted water flowing out the sides of a man hole cover on our drive whenever we used water. We spent £160 for a man to clear a blockage in our drains. I might be trying to save money but rather him than me! He did say though, if we were to take a picture of the phone number on the van we may want to cut out the middle man next time - lesson learnt.

  • Had an e-mail today saying the company I bought £60 worth of Christmas presents from 18thDecember (but didn't get delvered) has finally refunded me. Not happy with the wait and doesn't look like they are giving me any extra. Won't be using them again or any company that uses the same courier. We shall wait and see if it arives in 2-3 days.

The budget above looks good - I would query £12p/m on water though? Is this correct?

Regarding mobile 2, you can get a SIM-only deal starting around £3.50 with a few networks. I got a SIM-only with Tesco for £6p/m, and that includes 250MB of data if I remember correctly which is plenty for me :)
  • Thanks Blibble

Water is less as we deal with our own drainage (septic tank) so we only pay for water coming in. What I have missed though, is saving the money towards getting the septic tank emptied every two years which would be around £6 a month. I'll have a look at the weekend at unlocking my phone and seeing if I can save £6 from my mobile bill. £6 with a bit of data sounds great to me.

Not a lot of DIY going on today tut tut.

BUT I have started my bullet journal today :j I decided not to do it in a note book as I can be quite messy and indecisive which would aggrevate me and stop me from using it. So instead I have added the sheets to my current financial spreadsheet file. I Fudging LOVE spreadsheets! I can choose the funky text; colour within the lines:rotfl:; move information around the page; move information to another page; Amend column widths to suit and delete whatever I like without a page of scribbles AND it saves loads of time.

So the sheets in my spreadsheet are currently as follows:
    Monthly Budget
    Household Bills
    Net Worth
DIY Spends - Each room in categories
Yearly Goals - Financial, House, Other.
    January Bullet Journal
Calendar - Listed the usual but also noted renewal dates for the first time.
Fun - All fun things we do & treats bought to look back on at year end.
    Extra Income Brainwaves

    The January Bullet journal contents:
    Dates to Remember
Daily Maintenance - daily tick boxes eg. eat less than 1200cal (5 ticks a week would be good).
Monthly Goals - This month is short. Save £250. Put £400 into DIY account. Save £72 car maintenance. Finish Kitchen.
Tasks - Plus step by step how to complete them
Achievements - Main ones eg. Stuck to budget all month, Finished kitchen.
Daily log - Each line coloured according to key. Eg. Money saved, Financial planning, DIY

I'm sure this will all be amended and extended over time.

What pages have you got on your spreadsheet or bullet journal?
