Breaking Through, Travelling On

Hurray! Simply not spending any money (other than exhibitions at the British Museum, cups of tea etc ) has had an effect - current account balance healthy enough to send £100 to short term savings, very happy
And I posted the big Irvin Yalom book today, £15 net profit (all his books are big, mind you ).
For the rest of the day ... writing and gardening, bliss.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Glad you had a good day out on Saturday, it must have been very interesting to get up close and personal with the mummies!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Thanks Goldie - yes, it was. Imagine, 5,500 years ago, and the poor man's here in England!
My cunning plan went well - writing and gardening, though "gardening" isn't really accurate - crisis management is more appropriate :rotfl: still, some weeds are gone, and some more mulch is down, thats got to be good
Today, got an admin appointment outside the house, plus work back here at 1pm, so otherwise its gardening, writing (and tidying, oops).2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Tum ti tum ... sort of humdrum stuff going on, but stuff *is* still going on:
- washing line is full
- a yougov survey completed! 4005 points, need another 995 and I'll never darken their door again.
- 3 page letter written and posted yesterday! Got another one to do today as well. Background work ...
- 3 hours of sessions.
- writing has been getting done, which I'm pleased with - including the novel based in my local village
- financial admin. I finally opened the post that had been delivered and lots goes straight to file, but there are one or two bits that need attention. I doubt that's going to happen before Friday - busy today, and dentist tomorrow
Hope everyone's having a good day2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

What I *did* discover was some stamps, torn off used envelopes and kept - some of them are so old I'm tempted to put them into little themed batches and put them up on ebay - I can't imagine they'll sell fast, but I imagine they'll sell eventually.
Better than a slap in the face with a wet kipper :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I reckon the stamps could sell - I had a batch that my dad had torn off envelopes in the 70's and 80's, plus a couple of first day covers.
But I only got a couple of quid for them, but was pleased to rehome them.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I think I might do that, then, sell the stamps gradually - there's lots of little things around here like that, just needs the time to faff around and do it all
Had quite an intense-yet-low-level day yesterday. Tooth extraction! Modern painkillers are very efficient but this was the biggest tooth by far I've ever had distracted I'm very glad its gone. I did absolutely nothing after that, of course, and I'm taking it easy today too - decided to embrace my wimpiness :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'm glad the tooth extraction went well. It's a good idea to try to take it easy today if you can:T
Sorry to bring up the subject of tooth extractions but I'd appreciate some advice please. I have a tooth that definitely needs to come out. It could be a wisdom tooth (although I'm not sure all of them appeared) but is definitely the furthest back molar at the bottom. I have a dentist phobia, haven't even been for a check up in donkey's years:o. Luckily, my teeth have served me very well until this year and I really must get this one seen to as it has partly broken off and I'm getting the occasional toothache twinge:eek:
You mentioned the painkillers but is that all they administered prior to pulling yours out? It's an anaesthetic I dread (memories of a couple of adolescent extractions:o).0 -
CBC - I totally empathise with your situation. Honestly, I was shocked at how minimal the intrusion was - I remember painkiller injections being agony in themselves, even though they did numb the pain of the procedure. These hurt, to be sure, but just a little - there was no sense that I was hanging on for dear life, which is how it used to be (sorry, this might be TMI for most) ... Yes, thats all they administered - a painkiller injection on each side of the gum, wait a few minutes to take effect, and away we go. My last experience was over 25 years ago - 3 wisdom teeth came thru, but they were sort of stunted, like they didn't really want to be there :rotfl: and the dentist I had at the time, in Hackney, said they'd never clean properly, so she took them out.
I really think that even in the last 6 or 7 years, though, there must have been advances: I was in Denplan till 5 years ago, and the painkillers were never that easy. Honestly, go for it - the Egyptian exhibition last Saturday reinforced how troubling unattended teeth are get the rest of them cleaned and seen to as well - even on the NHS, it costs money (I've paid over £70 this month) but its worth it.
I'm off out for a walk now - I want to do some gardening, but I don't fancy pressurising my mouth by bending over weeding. I may play Lady of the Manor and take some scissors so I can cut some elderflower heads
Hope everyone's having a good afternoon - and, CBC, let us know what you decide. Best of luck.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thanks, KC, wise advice as always:T
I'm a bit of an ostrich but this is one situation that can't be ignored for much longer. I'm not even registered with a Dentist so my first job is to try to find one who takes NHS patients (if such a practice exists anywhere these days)
Enjoy your walk. Sounds much nicer than my mammoth shed-rummage ready for the planned car boot sale tomorrow morning.0
