re-stuffing a soft toy

The stuffing in a vintage soft toy is clumping together in places, leaving it hollow in others. Tumble drying it hasn't improved the evenness of the stuffing, and I am now thinking about re-stuffing the toy.

Has anybody done this before, and are there different types of stuffing available? Or is it just a case of popping along to the fabric shop and buying a bag? Perhaps I am overthinking this, but I wouldn't want to ruin the toy. It's circa 30-35 years old.

Problem solved, I bought a pack of soft toy stuffing from the local craft shop, undid the hem at the side of the toy, took the old stuffing out and put new stuffing in, then carefully re-stitched the hem. He looks like new, and the stuffing only cost £3.50.

I can recommend this to anyone wanting to give a new lease of life to old or vintage toys, or perhaps a toy your child doesn't want to part with, but which is getting old and tatty.
