  • When the kids are bored, I take them down to the local dog rescue centre to walk a dog. It's free, they enjoy it and it's helping a good cause.

Not sure how to learn, I'd recommend befriending someone who knows, I learnt from my sister-in-law when I was about 10, so I can't imagine not knowing.
For all you old schoolers interested in learning how to knit for free, try typing "stitch n b**ch" into google. There are loads of stitch n b**ch groups going on around the UK, inspired by a book of the same name. They're usually held once a week in a sympathetic coffee shop or pub, with a load of knitters of mixed ability and experience, all of whom will be more than happy to help out (be it teaching you from scratch or just advising with tricky patterns/techniques). Great non-alcohol based socialising too!

EDIT: Oops, with the b-word having different connotations for the different sides of the atlantic the message board wasn't happy with my knitting group name! I've edited the message to be slightly more demure, if you're not sure what it's meant to say then you can use this link

Hope offence has not been caused.

After a small initial cost Geocaching is a fun way to get out and about.
    try this link

    http://www.geocaching.com/

It involves using a GPS reciever to find hiden caches all over the UK (and the world). Sounds a bit nerdy but is rally enjoyable for those who love the outdoors.

  • CB radio is very quiet these days - all the der brains seem to have departed and it's possible to have a chat, find out where speed cameras are while out in the car, and make new friends. e-bay has a good selection of CB radios but there are still CB shops selling new gear and once you have a radio and an antenna it's virtually free.

I have been quilting by hand and machine for a number of years, I made 12 hand quilted cushion covers for christmas presents last year and have just finished 4 more for my friend in the USA.

For anyone who is interested there is a quilting channel on the internet, where you can see top US quilters using various techniques. The Quilters Guild also have a website on the internet.

    http://www.quiltersnewsnetwork.com/ https://www.thequiltersguild.co.uk.

I have made all sorts of thngs on my sewing machine, I sewed for all my chidlren when they were small, wedding dresses, christening dresses, nightwear, suits, coats curtains, the list is endless. I also hand embroidered, did counted cross stitch and knitted both for the family and as a sideline earning pin money when the children were small and my husband was working away and I was tied to the house at nights. I could never get on with machine knitting, I tried, but was not really very good at it.

I am just finishing a bed quilt, using up scraps of fabric, tinking about a throw for the settee in the sitting room next.

I do have photos of some of my quilts will try and find them and post a link for those of you who are interested.

  • I posted a thread similar to this a while ago, but it must have been over a year ago, so thought I'd start another one if that's ok
I'm feeling a bit bored lately, my life just seems to be made of of work and bed. I'm looking for some kind of hobby(s) I can do that won't cost the earth. I want something I can get better at, so I won't get bored straight away, and if I could actually make money out of my hobby that would be fantastic.
I'm 25, live with my boyfriend and work full-time, so don't have that much spare time, but am looking for something I can do in the evening and maybe weekends.
What does everyone else do in their spare time? If you have any ideas for me, I'd really appreciate it.

    Hiya :)

I've added your new thread onto the end of the older one to keep all the answers in one place.
