  • spendy spendy day today as predicted. But.... all paid for in cash (left over from the food festival) and there is still cash left in my purse. Here's the run down..

£3.40 on drink & breakfast at Mum's coffee this morning.
£5 for trampolining. This is an amazing value activity. Bounce as much as you like, free toddler lunch with drink. So we bounced for an hour, then Pickle had spaghetti hoops on toast. There are two pieces of toast, he only needs one, so I had the other. He had his water, I drank his squash. Very mse.

    Then food shop this afternoon.
    My supermarket said: £57.54
    I paid: £40.97
I couldn't get the desserts from the Shopmium offer, but that accounts for only £6 of that difference. I did downsize on a couple of things (so the 1kg bag of caster sugar in Ald! Is cheaper per kg than the 2kg one in mr t's)
I also stocked up on pickle's oaty bars in mr s. They are £2 a box at the moment (normally £2.70) this is still more than I'd like to pay, but I can't make anything as soft that won't go off as we tend to stash them in bags and the car as emergency snacks as well as packed lunch items. I ended up buyin. £14 worth, and decided to use £5 of nectar points to offset some of the cost.

    All this means.
£9.30 left in the grocery category on YNAB
£9.50 in cash in my purse.
1 day to go in September.

Tomorrow may be a nsd, but then again, it might not be.

    Watch this space...

  • Evening. Just going to do my daily update before I do my month end one.

Today wasn't a no spend day:

    £1 parking
£20 in gap on clothes for Pickle (we didn't buy him anything new in the 12-18month size, so three tops and a pair of mittens in the gap outlet sale plus 40% off I think is pretty good going.
£10.50 on coffee and cakes at a time place this afternoon. This sent me over the budget so I cashed out £11.46 (£12 minus fees) from Roamler to.cover it and sent the rest to the mop pot.

    Updates.

Pay of £445 mortgage capital - over pay by £150
 I paid £168.31 but had massively made a calculation error somewhere as this only amounts to £390.61 off of the capital. Saying that getting £160 was hard enough this month so at least I though I had succeeded. Hopefully next month will be better.

Cash out £30 surveys mystery shopping etc. :j details below.

Declutter 30 things - nope, but I don't feel bothered about it.

10 nsds :j achieved woop woop.

    Closing Balance: £35,945.65

    Household Goods: £71.02/£100
    Spending Money: £64.00/£100
Restaurants: £99.00/£100 - technically I'm still owed money from last week's meal out, I'm not banking on getting it back though and, if I do it can go towards next month's mop pot
Stuff I'll forget: £137.00/£100 - it was the £80 jeans repair and £45 car seat clean the sent this over. I will need a new car tire next month though :(

Any thoughts/comments on how improvements can be made are welcomed.

    MSE OCTOBER GOALS

Reduce mortgage capital by £475 (I think this is a mop pot of around £250)

Raise £110 for a new baby carrier (currently got a toddler size carrier on hire from the sling library, but would like to buy my own. I've already got some dresses, jewelry and 2 baby sized carriers to sell to fund this)

Cash out £50 from survey sites, mystery shopping and cash back etc (it was over £75 in September, I've not been as diligent the last couple of days but I'll get on it for October. )

    12 no spend days.

Bring on the first of the month

You've done great this month! I've taken a leaf from your book, and have set up goals for this month too. I need to set up a budget but I know this month is going to be pretty expensive, so I almost feel it's not worth doing just yet.

I've got a question about the mortgage interest, how do you calculate what interest has been added that month? Is it just the difference between the capital payment and the total "bill"? Thanks

    Hi Silence,
The internet banking for the Mortgage shows how much interest is added each month. I'm effectively working a month in arrears as the interest added today has accrued in September. But it's a system that's working for me.
I think it means that right at the end of the mortgage I'll have a tiny interest payment to pay to clear the account - much in the same way that people who clear credit cards say they have an interest payment after they've paid off the capital.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  • I was just popping on here to say

'Woohoo first of the month lets see where we stand' then realised it's Sunday, so everything will go out tomorrow.
However the mortgage company have kindly updated my balance with the interest accrued in September - they haven't bothered to take my payment or register my op from yesterday. But hey, at least I know where I stand and can set my mini mop pot goals.
    So:
    Goal 1: interest accrued: £72.38
Goal 2: colour in next square on countdown house: £120.14
    Goal 3: lovely round £35,500: £220.14
(I'll break them down into three goals below so I can overpay when I hit each point and keep the calculations simple)
1&2 should be perfectly manageable. 3 really depends on us not getting any unexpected bills.

    here goes.

Thanks! I'll have to see what ours tells us once I've set it up.
  • Evening all,
Today wasn't the nsd I'd hoped it would be. We needed milk ( I think we need a cow the rate we're going through milk at the moment)
I only bought milk though so a 75p spend. I had to do it as a card payment though as the cash machine wasn't working and I need cash to pay the cleaner.
I've Tilly tidied the. 25p to the mop pot.

Also I've got £8.50 left in cash from September so I've rounded this up to £10 and transferred £5 from groceries and £5 from restaurants to the mop pot.

My super stretch mop pot target is over £7 a day - this really will be a stretch, but on target so far.

Surveys have been slow today, but I need to check more regularly. Need to sort a few things to sell tonight and crack on with my consulting project.

    Update on day 1.

Wow, so much to catch up on Wish! Love your clear goals and budgeting skills. Hope to try YNAB once I reduce my hours and have a little more thinking space, seems to really work for you.

Which sling are you looking to buy? I found after about a year old DS wouldn't go in one and DD2 was too heavy for me/difficult to get on the back.
