Just to be contrary .... Farrow & Ball. I just find that the coverage is better and the colour is "more true" .... if that's important to you.

Homebase exterior paint is great, nice colours too; not too garish!

  • That's not true IMO.

They take the biscuit for being the worst Helpline I have ever encountered.

    Ring ring:

Female Shriek at office joke - phone put down before answering.

Me: On your website - if you press the Cream in the Weathershield section - it goes to someone's living room. So do you have any pictures of painted houses?

Grumpy: If you can't find it on the website - then we don't.

Me: I wanted to know the difference between Dulux and Sandtex, as Dulux is more expensive. What would I be paying for?

Grumpy: I don't know - I only know about Dulux.

Me: But it's your major competitor. Don' you know anything about it's paint?
    Grumpy: No.

Me: Well so sorry for wasting your time (as I'm not going to be offered any literature with different coloured houses to see what the shades look like).

Grumpy: You haven't wasted my time at all.

No - don't expect I did. He gets paid to be unhelpful.
I just paid for the call and the bad-tempered non-advice.
    Thanks Grumps!

    Sandtex for me.....

......Even before I rang the Sandtex Helpdesk.

    Mr Very Cheerful Indeed:

He not only volunteered to send me a FREE paint tester by post and some colour charts but explained that it was best to try the paint out as colours on the paint charts and internet were not that accurate.

He also efficiently gave advice on the different kinds of finishes available.

I could also have an extra paint tester for an extra £1.95 postage.

Now as a mere female, I haven't a clue about paint and they are probably just the same - but I know a good Helpdesk person when I speak to one.If anything goes wrong I now know the efficiency and attitude of each company.

....Dulux.... I should head-hunt the man at Sandtex today if I were you.
  • Sorry my dad and i have been using Sandtex on his bungalow for 25 years and it flakes every 2 years. Even preparing the walls and washing with sugar soap brings a bad result. This summer we switched to Dulux Weathershield (non trade) from B&Q. So far all looks good so fingers crossed.

I even notcied that the Sandtex flaked within months of winter arriving!

    Hope this helps.
  • I used to live in a park home and rec. moved to 'normal ' terraced house . I've large amount of Resitex still sealed [ about 2 years old ]. Could I use this on house and back garden wall [ or donate to my ex neighbours ? !! ]
