  • Up until 18 months ago I was a Lloyds/TSB Bank customer for approx 20 years. As part of the monthly charge I paid for the pleasure of having this account I was entitled to so called freebies, one of which was Sentinel Card Cover (I always thought it was about as useful as a chocolate teapot and never had cause to claim on it by the way!).

My question is would I still be eligible to claim any money back from Sentinel even though the policy cover was provided and paid for via a 3rd party Lloyds/TSB by way of their account charge?

Thanks in anticipation of a positive response! :)
  • My question is why the claims period begins for contracts beginning 2005.
I started in 2002 and renewed every 3 years since
  • I've been paying for Sentinel protection annually since 2000. I was advised to buy it through/by Tesco Personal Finance when I got their credit card for the first time. I see you can only claim from 2005...why is this? Can I still claim from 2005 or not at all as I started in 2000?
    Thank you
  • I was sold a card protection scheme under the name of Cardwise in 1992 by Nat West bank. I'm not sure but I think Sentinel took over Cardwise a couple of years later - I do know that from 1995 up until last year, when I realised the fraud insurance cover was not necessary, I had a Sentinel Gold policy.

I understand that years prior to 2005 cannot be reclaimed however I feel that between 2005 and 2013 at least I was misled by Sentinel - can I make a claim?

    Many thanks.
  • I paid for Sentinel card protection insurance via Barclaycard for, I think 10 years or more starting in the late 90's and I cancelled it 2 or 3 years ago. My problem is I do not have any of the original paperwork nor the Barclaycard statements showing the dates I started paying. My question is, can I still claim, which I understand will have to be to Barclaycard by just giving my details and card number, as I still have the same card?

Thanks, hope to get a positive response.
  • Having dealt with my late fathers probate, I know he had Sentinel Gold since 2005 until his death in 2011. Can I claim on behalf of his estate in the hope that his widow/ my mother may get the refund?
  • Having recently refound some Sentinel paperwork, and seen posts about Sentinel in general, I claimed a week ago; using a CPP template letter from Which? as it seemed easier to modify to my situation.

Sentinel (or whoever) rang me yesterday. I only had paperwork for one year, but they have awarded me all three years. A nice £70 for a few minutes work and the cost of a stamp. BUT they refused to pay interest, which would be another nice windfall of about £40. I challenged them and they said that it was because I had still had the other benefits of the policy and there was no ombudsmen ruling saying that they had to. What a difference a few hours make!

Rather than wait several months for the full process, as described in today's news, I think I will write to the ombudsman. However, if I read the news item correctly, if things don't work out, I could still claim under the new scheme and they will minus off the principle payment that I would have received and so pay me the interest that way.

So good to see justice being handed out to big companies who try it on!

  • I ceased my Sentinel Gold in 2013 after 20 years and have since moved address, how can I contact them to get a claim letter?
  • My sentinel card cover expires on Monday should I renew or will it disqualify me from compensation could they say it wasn't misold now I know about the proposed faults in the cover?

I was a subscriber to the Sentinal Gold Scheme. For some time,
HoweverI have just received a letter this week from a company called A1 Scheme Ltd, who are looking to reopen these claims. They have told me that over the next few months they have set out their process over 9 steps.
Step 1. A letter making me aware that I may be able to claim compensation.
Step2. "Propose a scheme of arrangement" as the method to pay compensation. By asking us to vote for or against the Scheme.
Step3. Return the voting form, for or against. If the Scheme is approved claim for compensation even if I did not vote.
Step4. Scheme creditors meeting to count the votes.
Step5. If the scheme is votes in favour the High court will be asked to approve the Scheme and claim forms will be sent out.Step6. Return of claim forms.
Step7. Compensation forms reviewed within 8 weeks.
Step8.Returned claim forms will automatically cancel security card products.
Step9. Notified outcome of review and a cheque for any compensation entitlement.
This process should last untill about October-November 2015.
    Sounds good.
