New but not new - Year 1 of 5! 1st Sep 17 at 1:17 PM
Hi! I'm a re-joining member of old.....and whilst I'm reluctant to give up my previous 10,000 post count, I also don't fancy ex husband following my every move as I go into this next exciting chapter of life! I was a DFW stalwart for years, but am pleased to announce am on the MFW journey....with vigour

I've not been on the boards for a while but it's lovely to see some familiar names and it's comforting having made the decision to come back!

I'm mid 40s, kids are grown up and more or less independent (one just moved out and one still creating mess at home). I'm lucky enough to have met a fabulous man who was mad enough to marry me a couple of years ago, and life is just the best.

The house is mine as I bought ex-h out in the divorce, which means the mortgage is also mine. We have plans and desires to start reducing our working stresses in 5 years time and oh can start drawing his lump sum and his pension then if he wishes. As we both lost out dads at 55, we are mindful of the fact we are not here forever. On the other hand we are fit and healthy so would hope to have a good few years to enjoy life ahead of us.

We love to spend time together and travel and want to do more of this without being tied into 5 weeks annual leave allowance!

So....all this starts with the fact my fixed rate comes to an end soon. I can switch on 31st October. The remaining term should be 11 years but I've done my calculations and reckon if I take a 5 year fixed rate, I can finish it off when that comes to an end....taking me to 52 and OH to 56 so still plenty of years ahead of us for living!

My starting point is a current mortgage figure of £116,879.11. It's no small challenge but I'm no stranger to that and I'm going to enjoy this one an awful lot

I feel like I've come home.....

We're back from ana amazing long weekend on Abu Dhabi. The Grand Prix was superb and we had some real "money can't buy" experiences (grid access, anyone?!) thrown in too.

Back to reality now and big background stuff still going on.....will know more soon. In the meantime, another £5 from swagbucks has been ordered....onwards!!

Current balance £114,744.64. Offset £2,151.73. £112,592.91 needed to be mortgage neutral!
End date - 03/29 but aiming for 10/22

So.....I'm back on the MFW trail.....£10.90 received today from Prolific and £10 from a Circle referral. A reasonably good day on Swagbucks sees me almost to my next Amazon voucher too. I'll be working on my December targets over the next few days and looking forward to the bigger targets for 2018.

In ongoing actions, I am continuing to work my way through my stash of toiletries, and a quick pre-Christmas inventory of the alcohol cupboard shows that we really don't need to buy much ahead of the festive season.

We will be working on having a big clear out in the first couple of months of the year......something both nerve-wracking and liberating at the same time!

Back to work today after our long weekend away....bleurgh.

But I've ordered another £5 from SB this morning and had another £10 referral from circle, so it's offset the pain of the alarm going off a little!! Happy hump day everyone!

So, another month comes to an end and totals for this month's free money are as follows:

    Swagbucks - £80.00
    Jobspotter - £42.33
    Circle - £25.50
    Prolific - £21.28
    Rewards and interest - £8.61
    Coupons and shopmium - £15.00
    Other surveys/shoppix - £6.00

Total for November £198.72. Not bad considering we had a few days away.

    Thanks, Beanie.

So, December is here - where has this year gone?! My first "new" mortgage payment has gone out, so snowball duly updated, as is the signature. I owe a little bit less and I've saved a little bit more, so between the two, there is a reasonable difference month on month - I look forward to seeing those figures change over the next few months.

Goals for the month are fairly loose -

    1) Have a fabulous Christmas with those I love, without getting carried away in spending more money than is really necessary.

    2) Keep going with the "money for nothing" stuff and try and make more use of the opportunities available, without it encroaching further on precious "us" time at home.

    3) Keep working through the mega stash of toiletries etc that I have and sort through anything that is not ever going to get used or is out of date.

    4) Have a clear out - get 100 items out of the house for good.

    5) Get back in the gym and work out where I am heading with my personal physical goals.

    6) Keep focused on some big stuff that is happening in the background and look forward to exciting things for 2018.......

    Happy December, everyone!

Yay Kate! It's a good feeling!!

I've actually managed to order a second one today thanks to the monthly bonus coming through! I have also cashed out just over £5 from attapoll and £10 from jobspotter today. So £25 of free money today....if only every day were so easy!!

I'm seriously amazed, though.... without too much effort it makes a real difference!

And the weekend starts with sunshine and my first withdrawal from Instagc.....another £5 Amazon voucher for very little effort, so I'm happy with that!

Everyone is at work today except me....so I need to step away from the surveys and make the most of the ability to blitz the house uninterrupted!! Hmm.....

Hi sweetie, I'm back from points northward - I'm glad you had such a good time at points south-eastward

You are *so* inspirational, you know! £198!!! Congratulations!

My phone seems to finally be working, in that it can use the internet *and* it can use mobile data, so from Monday, I'll be paying serious attention to sb and all the rest of it. My initial aim is £50 a month, while I get my feet under the table - I'd love it to be £100

Have a lovely weekend, though I'm not quite sure that blitzing the house counts

My aim is also £50 a month, KC and I am astounded that I have been able to get as much as I have so far! £50 is a whopping £600 a year - that's *real* stuff that makes a difference! I'm now saving my amazon vouchers towards something specific......it will become clear should the bigger background stuff all come together as hoped. Until then, I'm not wanting to tempt fate too much, so am desperately trying not to think of it all too much....although that is really difficult to do!

Blitzing the house isn't so much a blitz but a steady sweep lol, I am working my way through and hoping that eventually that, too, also comes together and makes it look like I have actually achieved something for my efforts!!

Re swagbucks, there is a new swago board starting on Monday at 5pm, so your return to it has been timed perfectly - make sure you register for it......every extra point helps!

    Right.....back to it!

Just stopping by to say love the diary, your energy levels are fantastic.
My mortgage is smaller than yours (£95k) but am sure you’ll overtake me. We are currently increasing pension contributions to a crazy amount (er, 44% anyone?) so all focus is on keeping a tight budget but come new tax year hope to be back to overpaying.

Just wondering - the cheap smart phone you bought, is the camera any good? My smartphone has the dreaded blue screen I need to try and sort out, bought a very basic Nokia for £10 after cashback but missing a few of my favourite apps and don’t want to commit to another expensive handset right now.

Anyway, subscribing and looking forward to following your progress
    Mortgage 16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
    OPs 2011-2016 = £45K 2017 OPs = £9250.20
