Learner Driver Insurance (you may find useful)

Hi folks thought I would post as I've just got a reasonable deal.

Mrs Clarkovich is just about to learn to drive so I have been trawling the usual comparison sites to get the best deal with me as main driver and her as a named driver. She currently holds a UK Provisional Licence. Rather than her just getting lessons I wanted her to be insured on our car just now so that she can get a bit of practice inbetween lessons.

From the 9 sites I tried 1st Central has come out on top by some distance (£150 cheaper than nearest competitor). I personally thought this was too good to be true and that I would get stung once she actually passed. I asked them to do another quote assuming she had passed her test today and now held a full licence. The result was a jump of only £70.

I had previously been advised to go to sites such as Provisionalmarmalade and collingwoodlearners however their stand alone policies were coming in at £85 per month.

anyway just thought I would share, I'm sure there are a few who are in a similar situation. It's definitely worth hunting around for this.

Until you read the thread about them, The one above rings a bell but i read a much worse case recently.

They refused to payout, Kept moving the goalposts each time.

Not so much of a bargain then.

Depends on your viewpoint, you'll legal, and have all the paperwork, I have one car insured on that basis.

I'm with 1st Central just now, no problems but never claimed (2 vehicle changes and a number plate change has been hassle free though).

Insure first, worry about problems IF they happen.

Directline did not increase the premiums when our littleuns passed - only named drivers not their car.

I did not renew my car ins policy with 1st Central due to feedback on here and google. I was so relieved I got through the one year with them without an incident as i'd had 2 in the previous year with Sheila's Wheels who were outstanding. Ive gone back to Sheila's wheels as they were also outstanidng with my buildings and contents cover. I did have a bad 2 years. I only discovered by reading or googling that 1st Central comprehensive cover does not insure you to drive someone else's car with their permission third party. I'd been doing so! It might be different now but it was a massive shock and caused big debate on here. Hope this is helpful to someone.
