  • My husband has saved £1000 to buy stuff when we move and at the beginning of this month I had nothing so on pay day I put aside £800. £800 is what I used to put in our joint account each month when we lived in the flat to cover half our bills and mortgage.
Today I received a refund I was due so have just transferred £200 and I now have £1000 saved too :) I like to keep things fair.
When we move we should have around £8000 joint savings left. I'm going to pay off my cards with it and then the rest will be used towards a car and I will pay back what I borrow.

    Paid back : £700 / £2476
  • Soooo I just went and paid off the balance of credit card 2 with the savings from the sale of our flat. That's £1800 of debt written off. Feels pretty good!
I have £600 left on credit card 1. That means I just have £600 of official debt. £600!!
I definitely feel like I have cheated though.

Once we have moved I will work out what I can afford to pay back each month.
I've promised hubby I will pay it back by Christmas. Not that he's asked when or said I have to. He's so nice and understanding about it all :)

  • I wish it was just £600! I still owe our savings £1800 but only £600 will be on my record.

So things are moving with our house and we actually get the keys next week!!! Can't believe it. I'm so excited. We went to see it last week and we are so pleased with all our choices. I sent the money over to the solicitor yesterday so I'm no longer rich :(

We want to get blinds when we move in. Not sure whether to pay a company to do it or buy them and try and do it ourselves. There is a local company who said they would give us a rough estimate based on our measurements so will send those over today.
We found out that we have to have an aerial installed on the house which we had no idea about. When we moved into our flat it was all ready to go and we just plugged in the TV! So now we have to find someone who can do that for us. I have no idea what it will cost...
I think it's going to be an expensive few weeks coming up!

  • We've got the keys to our new house!! Been a manic week and I'm exhausted but very happy. Going to spend the weekend moving all our furniture from storage. Can't wait until we have everything in place and we can relax.

I borrowed £1800 from our savings to clear one of my credit cards so I have renamed one of my empty savings account to pay the money back to.
It's pay day day today so I have just paid £200. £1600 to go!
I have changed my direct debit for cc1 down to £200 rather than £400 as I think the next few months will be expensive with the move. That goes out next week so my total debt will go down to £2000. :)

  • Wow I joined this forum a year ago! In that time I have cleared just over £5k of debt :)
I feel quite proud when I see it written down like that.
We are settling into our new home and I'm still be sensible and not rushing to buy anything. We still have over £6k in our house fund but I don't plan to spend much of it. We have kept all our furniture from our old flat so other than a spare bed and the blinds we really don't need to buy anything.
£200 will be going onto my credit card on Monday.

  • £200 went onto my credit card this morning bringing the balance down to £400.
My total debt is now £2000 :)

I need a car. My new house is kind of out in the sticks. It was the only way we could afford a house. Originally I wanted a car to get me to the station everyday but my train ticket is already over £400 a month :(
I'm not in walking distance of the station and there isn't a bus so my husband has been giving me a lift but it's two hours earlier than he needs to leave for work.

I've been looking for new jobs nearby and have an interview this week. If I get the job I will need a new car asap.
I don't know whether to buy brand new on finance or borrow from my bank or buy a really cheap old car or what. I haven't had a car for years coz I haven't needed one. I don't even know what cars are good.
