Possibility of hidden CCTV in shared house

Hello, I have just overheard our house manager talking on the phone.

The conversation went pretty much like this:

"I am going to look through the CCTV to find out what has been going on in this house. Come over on monday, so we can catch them on tape."

As far as I know, this is illegal to do, when no one knows about it, is this right? There are no signs up and no one has been told about this.

It is a House of multiple occupancy,8 or so people, we all share the same kitchen and bathrooms. The manager lives in the building, the landlord lives about 15 mins away from the house.

What do you mean by 'house manager'? Does he live in the house with you? Is this an HMO? Or AST? or what?

Do you have "alarm " sensors in the corner of the rooms, like burglar alarms, stay online as well

Not student housing, its just a standard HMO. The house manager has the keys to everything here, and keeps things in check around the building (or, that is what he is meant to do.

There are no alarm sensors around the house, but there are sensors to turn the lights on automatically in the hallway and bathrooms. Nothing like this in the kitchen as far as I know (the area in question)

    1) change the lock to your room. No reason a 'house manager' should be going in there.

    2) Check your local council website for the rules/requirements for HMOs - does it comply (eg here)

    3) Look for obvious hidden camera like these.

They can be disguised as smoke detectors, PIR alarm sensors, in clock faces, they only need a hole the size of a pinhead
