Best way to clean electric oven

We have moved house and for the first time I have an electric cooker.

It is rather old and looks as if it hasnt seen a cloth in a while!

Can anyone recommend what's best to use on it?

Is it ok to still use the spray on Muscle type cleaners - or has anyone got any How Clean is Your House miracle cures where I can put a bowl in the oven for 2 minutes and all the grease falls off:T :T

The hob part isnt looking any cleaner either but I'm just going to attack it with metal scourers and some cream cleaner and see what happens!

Take out anything that will come off - shelves, knobs, etc and soak them overnight in washing powder and hot water in the bath. I dribble the same mixture all over the inside of the oven too, leave for a few hours then wipe off with clean cloths. Sparkly for almost no effort :D

  • Stardrops and a scrubby, use neat and then rinse, will help to get the worse off

run them through the dishwasher first on a hot cycle, then you can soak them for much less time (and may not need to soak at all)

I've always needed the strong Mr Muscle type cleaners and a scrubber for the stains on the glass door, though stardrops is good for the inside of the oven itself. They also do a specialised oven cleaner called Starclen which has ammonia in it, and which is supposed to be excellent, but I haven't come across it in any of my local shops.
  • If it's anything like our oven an Atomic Bomb is needed!!!

The wife swears by Fairy Power Spray.

    Or you could try this:

Spray the bars with a cheap oven cleaner and put in in a black sack overnight, the next day take it to your nearest jet wash and give it a good spray, they come up like new and all of the gunk is left at the car wash.

I ofter get funny looks when there is queue on a Saturday and I seem to be spraying the floor!!

I've seen both stardrops and starclens in Home Bargains for the usual ridiculously cheap prices that they sell things at! About 70p ish if memory right!
