Not so. The scheme runs for 3 years, renewable, but :

"The Scheme is open to anyone who receives one of the following benefits, and has at least 12 months' award length remaining when they apply:
    • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
    • War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement"
So as long as you have 12 months left, you can apply. If after 12 months for some reason the DLA do not renew, or reduce, your Allowance, you can keep the car (and associated benefits) but would have to personally make the payments which the DWP previously made. See here.

The acknowledgement letter states 11 weeks, but this is very dependant on levels of work the section have already on hand.

My advice would be to leave it say 4-5 weeks then ring them if you havent heard anything
  • thanks for the advise

Hi confused, I have only recently had my renewal. On the letter they sent me to say that they had received my application it stated 'if you have not heard anything in 8 weeks you may phone'.

Within 3 weeks I received a letter from them stating that they hadn't yet come to a decision and they had sent to my GP for a report. I had a decision within the 8 weeks. I know it's a difficult time because it's always on your mind, but I would wait 8 weeks before contacting them.

They will inform you in writing if and when they contact your GP or Specialist

I dont think they always do this. I renewed last year and never recieved any leter informing me of this. However I asked my GP they had been in contact and the surgery had given them information.

It is normal practice for them to inform you, the report and the letter issued to a claimant informing them that further information is being requested are actually printed from a computer together
