Bank of England or any bank? I think this needs to be clarified. I m getting a bit concerned not about the ones in my pot (i know where they are :rotfl:) but I have a few £1 coins around the house (old bags purses, chucked in drawers etc) that I don't want to 'lose'

At least I have warning I just need to find them all now :D they will make a nice contribution to the pot.

I think the short notice might have something to do with coins being used in vending machines whereas notes aren't so much.

Bank of England, the central bank in Threadneedle Street, London.

While some banks will accept notes that are no longer legal tender (as the BOE will always swap them), they're not obliged to. It probably varies by the bank and possibly even the cashier, so it'd just be easier to get rid of them by October.

The BOE will do exchanges by post for those not local, but that may be limited to notes rather than coins, I'm not sure. In any case you'd end up having to pay for Special Delivery, as it's the only way Royal Mail would cover it in the event it was lost in the post. Depending on the amount therefore, exchanges by post might not be financially viable.

    Happy New Year,everyone :j:j.Wishing everyone a wonderful 2017!

Decluttering has continued around here today. And because I have been home alone all day, have been able to get soooooo much done.Love it.

As part of decluttering,I found a couple of piles of change on one of the sides in the kitchen. All potted: £1 x4,50p x2,and assorted shrapnel.Total of £5.39.Not too shabby for the first day of the year. And so many coins decluttered into tins makes the house look sooooo much tidier :rotfl::rotfl:.

People on the other thread have now said that coins are nothing to do with the bank of England (they only deal with notes) Coins are issued by Royal Mint and they do not exchange them. Furthermore the banks are under no legal obligation to accept them (although most of them probably will)

I have now decided to set up a 'holding pot' for my £1 coins and when I have £10 or 20 I will swap them and put a note into the sealed tin.

I am not going to chance being left with any after October.

I may open my pot in September to unleash the pound coins stuck in there (and move the money to my savings account) and then start a new pot until Nov 3rd. Hmmm, maybe, well I have time to decide later.
