Distributing home-made alcoholic drinks

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anybody in here has come across distributing home-made beverages (legally of course!) as an extra income source?

I'm well aware of tax implications etc. that come with it, however it's something I enjoy for personal consumption and many of the other tips including blogging etc. tend not to float my boat.

Has anyone any experience of this, and was it successful?

Thank you

  • I see homemade alcohol at farmer's market type things sometimes. You could test the waters by renting a stall somewhere.

You will need a specialist license to sell alcohol

  • You'll get in a lot of bother if you dont register with your local Environmental Health Office if you are starting a food or drink business. They'll visit you and tell you what to do- write up hygiene procedures, get a food hygiene certificate, get a waste disposal contract or whatever.

It's not that difficult though, there must be hundreds of micro breweries for example.

I'm aware of all the above - thanks for your input. The other consideration I have personally is that I'm in a leasehold premisis, and business activity at the home address is prohibited by this unless I clear it with the developer. Not impossible, but another hurdle to cross.

If nothing else, it gives me an excuse to perfect my product. Back to the garage for a tasting!
