I have recently signed Contribution Based JSA.

How long does it take to get a payment? I signed on for the first time after a prior appointment today?

Also I have claimed for back-dated payments for the time I can prove that I have been jobseeking. How long do these claims take to process?

Yes, once your claim has been processed and is active.
It can take up to six weeks before you start getting payments.

Jesus, no need to over do it.

OP, in the "real" world, when you first go the the interview and sign all the papers, it takes around 5 days for them to get back to you via mail letting you know you have been accepted. After that, depending on what day they appoint to you as your sign on day, it takes 3 working days to get paid. For example, sign on a Monday, you get paid on Wednesday.

For the back-dating, I think this is a separate claim, and could take around 2 weeks for someone to take a look at your case and let you know if you where entitled to payment, if you where, then they'll let you know via mail and you'll be paid into you bank account the ammount owned to you.

    Hope this helps.

Timeframes vary considerably between areas - six weeks is certainly not unheard of, and two weeks for a backdating decision would only happen in the most efficient BDC, I have seen cases taking up to three months.
    Gone ... or have I?

Yes, one time I waited 6 weeks and another about 2 months before receiving anything. The only other time I was unemployed it took about a fortnight.

I also had to continue signing despite not getting any benefit.

I believe it's because of individual circumstances, I was employed and self employed and it just took time.

I had to apply for a crisis loan and was intitially denied despite stating the reason for the loan was 'risk of starvation!!'

A claim to contribution based JSA *should* be quicker as there is no means testing so if you've been in work for tax year 8/9 and 9/10 then expet a 12 day turnaround ( stated target) however if your claiming income based JSA then expect a little longer IF you have not filled out the form fully, or have omitted documents needed. In either case a daily call culminating with a demand to speak to a manager should get you paid ( assuming you've past your first signing day)

Note foreign nationals and previously self employed will take longer as they need sending away for specialist decisions.

Call for a crisis loan and they should help out - if they say they don't want to pay you BUT have not completed the decision process INSIST on the formal completion of your application I expect you will be paid as turning most people down whilst waiting for a benefit claim would be overturned within hours by the Indipendant Review service

Well it took about 3 weeks from my initial signing on claim form submission through to payment. So I guess that is a general bench mark for anyone thinking of claiming.

I will be signing off next week and have found it a life saver, I know I sort of paid for the financial help after working hard for the past 6-7 years full time, but i suppose you to all the other tax payees out there. I can assure you it was a short and needed stint that I never wish to do again.

Now I will be working again (within 7 weeks of me deciding to finally sign on and also deciding to start a business) I would very much like to pay taxes to make up Jsa claimants. My last job was worrying with people claiming (ironically) thankfully not in the city I live in. I think Jsa should be for no mire than 6 months though fir anyone and that Jobcentre plus should actually help people find work, and they shouldn't just be a signing on card factory as mine local centre is.

Yes... No more bumping past drug dealers getting there pocket money and rent paid.... :T
