There're masses of ideas in the cleaning index and here's a thread on exactly the same topic.
I'll merge your question to the older thread later to keep all the answers together.

Thanks, I did try a few searches but didn't see them - for some reason I didn't think to try vomit!

We were given a massive polystyrene box full of the best haddock fillets for our wedding! They were from Fraserburgh though...the very best place for fish, and our chef at the hotel has the most fabulous recipe for the fish course...any way, I digress....we had to collect them, and yes, the fish brie leaked all over the boot on the way home (an hour) and it STANK. I mean, you could't even sit in the car for two seconds, let alone on a sunny day.

We used....a carton of tomato juice to get rid of the smell. Yes, it was messy, but we just hosed down the boot afterward and left the boot up and the doors open all day...et voila! One fish free car.

    Must be the acid/alkaline thing.

Also works well for poo smells apparently, and vomit..although I doubt it would be very easy to clean off upholstery or carpets...but they pour it down the loo on airplanes when someone has been ill ...works a treat!

    ...and someone actually bought it???:D

Reminds me of that joke about the man who goes to the doc and says,
'It's the weirdest thing...my farts don't smell at all!' and to prove it, he lets one off.

The doctor replies 'I'm sending you to a specialist'.

'Oooh!' says the man, 'a bowel specialist?'

'No' says the doc....'an ear, nose and throat specialist!'
  • Soda water works a treat for vomit smells as well as sour smells like milk. My mum gave me this tip and I always kept a bottle in the cupboard when my children were small!

Just a part-exchange, so it was the garage's problem. Not my fault if they never sat in the car before they did a deal with me!!

  • Hey guys,

right basically last night a friend of mine was sick in my car....well i say my car...but really it's my boyfriend's! So you can imagine I was pretty cross. I've been reading all the other threads and am going to follow the advice, the only problem is I live in a 7th floor apartment and my car is parked in an underground car park, therefore it is impossible for me to get a hoover down there, will it matter if I can't hoover up after it's dry???? There's not loads of sick, just little marks on the seat.

    Thanks

A stiff brush might help? Or ask a friend to use their vac?

    Hi

I picked up a replacement company car this afternoon and it stinks! I think that someone has either been sick or spilt some milk in there?

My company want me to get it valeted and claim it back on expenses but I'm a bit skint until payday. Anyone have any cheap tips to get rid of the smell?

    Ta

I was just told an OS tip yesterday about keeping a car smelling fresh. Can you buy concentred fabric softners in little soft plastic cyclinders. I can't find my words this morning (it's early :D). You dilute it with water.

Anyhoo you just put them in the door of the car and the smell just filtrates through the car and smells lovely apparently. Cheap too.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)
