HSBC cheque paid into HSBC account - how long to clear

Hi all

I've got a HSBC cheque from someone (AA breakdown repair cover insurance payout) and want to pay it into my current account, which is also HSBC. How long will it take to clear?

Cheers

3 days, although I had the odd one cleared in 2 days. But I think it can take up to about 5 days before the issuer cannot cancel it with their bank.

According to HSBC call centre, funds should be available on the fourth working day after I pay it in. As I am paying it on a Saturday morning, I'm going to assume the following Friday! Progress eh?

  • some branches have a special cheque paying in machine...as you are both HSBC it goes into your account on the same day. Using this machine it takes 3-4 working days if the cheque is coming from a different account.
