Hi all - sorry I'm away so much lately, am really trying hard to stay offline as I realised it was taking up too much time in my life. I do miss MSE, but only come on here a couple of times a month (cold turkey eek!).

I am really having quite a slack summer, only saved £683 in August due to wedding- and holiday-related expenses!!! September should be waaaay cheaper, thank goodness. I need to get stingier again lol! I'm now up to £38,260 - still on track for £42,000 by the end of 2010 (just). Off to update my sig now.

Well done Dippy, nearly at a nice round number, you'll have to try to top it up through the month as motivation!

I got my expenses so got to 41k, maaaaybe 44k next month, but not sure I'll manage that one.

Definitely will give it a go - that extra £250 is calling me!

  • Hi All,

Im 24 in the South East, Been a while since i last posted on here but i wanted to share my savings so far and it gives me something to look back on when i spend it eventually! Each year for the last 4 ive managed to put away my ISA allowance and ive just generally saved in between, ive also just sold my car.

    ISA: £16000
    Savings: £19300
    Total: £35300

Im aiming for £40k by the end of the year, which will likely be the deposit on a house, then i aim to start saving another lump - perhaps £10k for fees/furnishings/emergencies.

Feeling quite pleased as I'm nearly two-thirds of the way to my total.:j Need to concentrate on putting something into the holiday fund too though... Am rather in awe of some of your totals but trying to keep my spirits up with the thought that London is very expensive and I earn rather less than the average wage (that's less than the UK average, never mind the London average!:o) Anyway, well done everyone :T

One little thing I'm doing is setting up my Quidco payments to go straight into the bank I use for saving, I don't tend to notice it and spend it then!

Brilliant idea! There's really no point in using cashback sites unless we actually save the difference, is there? I've been using them for a couple of years and it always seems to just pop into my current account, get forgotten about and spent! :o I will update my Quidco acc directly based on your tip.

I didn't realise you could set up anything other than a current account for cashback sites but that sounds like a really good idea!
