After being long hauled badly a few years back, we've happily used shuttles every trip. I was planning to do the same this time but am now wondering about trying Lyft or Uber. I've downloaded both apps but haven't used either before. I'm not thick but after a 10.5 hour flight I can be a bit dozy on arrival so - are they safe and easy to use? And is one better than the other? Thanks lots

I used Uber all the time in Vegas and it was very easy, the collection areas are nearly always away from the taxi ranks but not a long walk, at the airport you just follow the signs. The app gives you the registration number of the vehicle that's picking you up and tells you when it's arriving.

Most of the casinos wifi stretches to the outside to be able to order Uber. Once I booked one and the vehicle was sat in front of me!

Best thing about Uber is that they are fixed prices, you agree the price through the app and if you get stuck in traffic it's not going to cost you any more.

    Hope that helps.

Got a good deal with BA before but they're pricey on this occasion.

Do you guys ever stay in another city before Vegas? Wondering whether to fly elsewhere to see more places on the trip (perhaps helping with the long flight too by splitting it up a bit)

I just twinned Vegas with Seattle, doing Seattle first and then a 2 hour flight down to Vegas. You could also easily do San Fransisco too and even Los Angeles. I was talking to a couple in Vegas who were doing San Fransisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles in the one trip but they were only a few nights in each which I don't think I could handle.

That is very helpful - thank you! Will give it a go I think. Didn't know about the registration number, that's a great feature

There are two very popular road trip loops which include Las Vegas, and I'd highly recommend both of them.

    1. Las Vegas > (San Diego maybe) > Los Angeles > Pacific Coast Highway (or Sequoia and Kings Canyon) > San Francisco > (Lake Tahoe, maybe) > Yosemite National Park > Owens Valley > Death Valley > Las Vegas.

    2. Las Vegas > Zion > Bryce Canyon > Capitol Reef > Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point > (Grand Mesa, maybe) > (Black Canyon of the Gunnison, maybe) > Million Dollar Highway > Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad > Mesa Verde cliff dwellings > Grand Canyon South Rim > Hoover Dam > Las Vegas.

Obviously you could do either loop in either direction. The time of year affects road closures especially across the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and at the moment large parts of the Pacific Coast Highway are closed due to landslides.

My plan is to go back to Vegas towards end of September, however,..... plan is to go solo...
Wifey not a keen fan of driving, and what I want to do, is do a driving trip. Spend 3 or 4 nights in Vegas to get my fix as such, but I want to do the long drive from San Fran via Yosimite for 1 or 2 nights, down through death valley, onto Vegas, then maybe 1 night in Big Bear, before heading back to LA to fly home, or even do the highway A1 trip from LA to San Fran........

I got points on Virgin for a free flight (+taxes), don't pay for Vegas rooms, so I could make it a cheapish trip!

Has anyone had any experience with going with children. Most rooms are double occupancy only, I was wondering if anyone has tried booking the room for 2 adults but been able to check in as 2 adults & 2 children.
We have never taken them before as they stayed with grandparents but looking at going for a few days after a Disney trip, our son would love to see it in real life

Lots of times, only with one son but we always booked a 2 queen room (2 double beds) for 2 adults and never mentioned son was with us, no need to check the kids in.

Of course you can book a 2 queen room for 4 ( as they sleep 4) but you will most likely get charged extra for the other 2.

there are exeptions , some hotels allow free kids up to 12 years old but not so many in vegas these days, I know the MGM group used to but not sure any more.

Another option is to get a rollaway when you are there some hotels charge some dont (ask housekeeping once you get to your room), the rollaways are comfortable as they have a full size single mattress on them

there is one more added complication in that if you book a 2 queen room for 2 adults you are not gteed to get one , they may put you in a king room ( 2 rollaways would then be required)
